We parked in a large car park close to the cathedral and took a long, leisurely walk along the River Severn, past all the swans. Apparently this part of the river between the railway viaduct and the Worcester Cathedral Ferry has been designated as a Swan Sanctuary. There is now a large and healthy population of mute swans on the water.

I was pushing my mother in her wheelchair and I was pleased to see that, for the most part, the path was quite smooth making this quite easy. It was a lovely walk. We were extremely lucky with the weather that weekday morning in late March.

I really enjoyed walking the banks of the Severn, they are clean and well kept with plenty of room for cyclists and pedestrians. There are plenty of routes to choose from and river crossings that make for a nice 'loop walk'.
The Swan Sanctuary close to town is lovely and there are plenty of places to refuel along the way.

Well, dear friends. It's not quite the Amazon, but the River Severn does have water, and is in the shape of a river, so I assume it is one, probably.

There's a glorious walk along the promenade behind the cathedral. We went in the late afternoon in lovely sunshine. Have never seen so many swans in one place.

it's charming. Really nice and we went along on a canal trip. Regrettably late at night I lost my footing, so if anyone finds my glasses, wallet and bank card, let me know.

The nice people at Browns by the Quay were good enough to tell us that the next bridge down the river was only a little over a mile away and that is was about a 40 minute walk there, across and back,
What better way to spend a brilliant September morning in full sun and just a nice breeze? None, so we thought we'd give it a go.

As advertised walking down the river takes you past the swans, the Cathedral, Diglis hotel, a couple of locks as it merges onto a canal and avoids some fast running water and onto a fairly new footbridge. Coming back on the other side you could extend your walk in land on a couple of occasions but we stuck to the river and wandered up past the school playing fields and back to the bridge by the cricket ground. On this bank there are areas where the view onto the river is all but obscured by the riverbank trees/bushes, but it isn't a huge problem (just the difference between a four and a five score!).

We sat on a bench at one point so the whole thing took is around an hour and was a very enjoyable experience. We'd have certainly done it before now if we knew for sure we could get across the river without it being miles away.

Didn't realise they have a swan sanctuary there, hundreds!! Good under foot for walking. Lots of narrow boats in the marina to see. Fish ladder interesting. Lots of shade on bank opposite cathedral side, sunnier other side. Saw FIVE Kingfishers!!

Lovely place to walk along the Severn with its cathedral views and also a large number of swans nearby. The bridge leading to Worcs CC ground is an excellent place to view church & cathedral at night - esp with a moon and reflections on the river and also ghostly swans moving in & out of vision. Atmospheric!

This is a lovely river with numerous parks on its banks for everyone to enjoy.
Watch out for those seagulls, though - they'd steal a sandwich from your hand.

We stayed in a rental apartment near the river called Riverview. It’s self contained. Ultra modern and handy for shops and pubs alike. Gorgeous views of the river and lovely walks are nearby. There’s no parking but they have an arrangement with the nearby railway station to park there.
