Ideal to watch if you are in Windsor. Very proud to be British watching this and it’s carried out every day free to watch for all to see.

Interesting that TripAdvisor lists this under "Theatre and Entertainment." It is a bit of theatre, I suppose. What I was missing here was context. That's something I'd have to gain for myself for the next time I might take on a Changing of the Guard. It strikes me that we've just come through some of the biggest events in royal pageantry: the Duke of Edinborough's funeral, the Queen's funeral, the King's proclamation and coronation. Through it all, we have had patient commentators giving context. When you take on a Changing of the Guard live, you don't have it - and frankly, it can make the half-hour process a little mystifying. I'd want to research better for myself to really know what's going on.
The crowds were rude - that's the only way I can put it. Shoving in front, cameras high over-head. Staying for just a few minutes and leaving ... pushing past, walking on the grass. Very difficult for those of us who wanted to observe it, witness it to do so. Pity the behaviour of others so detracted from what seems to be an important action in the life of a working palace.

The published times are for the changing of the guard at the castle. If you just want to stand on the street and watch - they go past about 10 minutes earlier ... but they also come back about 20 minutes later. Crowd is less on the return trip !
A good spot to watch (the return trip) are the traffic lights in between the Guildhall and the Queen Victoria statue / corner. Stand of the opp side of the road to the Gulldhall and you will have a great photo as they come around the corner !
It's free to watch ... but the nearby parking (down by the river) is expensive !

Get there early - by 10.30 to get a spot at the front of the barriers. Well worth seeing. We saw the Gurkhas take over as the new guards. It only happens once a week on a Saturday. You can watch the band & guards arrive from outside the Castle in the main high street.

This is a must see, but make sure you are there, well before time, as the crowds can get quite large. Highly recommended.

We wanted to watch the changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle and so we timed that we could actually watch it. The ceremony starts around quarter to 11 and people were already standing in the best stops to see it. Don’t miss it, it’s brilliant.
If you don’t want to see the actual ceremony you can see the band and troops march into the Castle from the streets outside and again when the Old Guard exits. However, the ceremony itself is really not to be missed.
We watched it during the heat wave, so be careful has the ceremony takes around half an hour with no shade. We were sweating just watching so felt really sorry for the soldiers taking part in it.
Check line to see the dates and times and the Regiments who are taking part. It doesn’t occur every day.

If you are planning to see the Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle pre book you tickets online . As it is a bit of a walk around to the parade ground from the ticket entrance, book you tickets for no later than a 10.30 entrance time. This will give plenty of time to clear security and walk to the parade ground and get a prime position to see the ceremony. The march in is around 10.55 with the ceremony starting at 11.09 prompt. Don’t miss it, It’s brilliant.

Lovely to see the full pageantry of the Changing of the Guard again. There were hundreds of people there for the occasion (almost to pre-covid levels.) An added bonus was the full Guards military band escorting the guard up to the castle. Always a splendid event. Nobody can do it quite like the British army! The crowds always congregate around the Queen Victoria statue, it's worth the extra walk to move furthwer down towards the barracks where you get a far better view.

Take time to wander about at your own pace. The Doll's House is fascinating but as the room is rather dark (to preserve the exhibit) it can be difficult to really appreciate all the detail. Don’t miss St George's Chapel. Very moving.

In June our train will get into Windsor at 9:42. We need to drop off our luggage at our B&B, so we won't be able to be to Windsor Castle until 10:15-10:30. Is that enough time to get in with security (pre-booked tickets) and see the changing of the guard? If so, then we considered leaving for lunch as the website says the best time is later. To get back into the castle on the same day about how long would that take around 1:00? Is it worth the hassle to leave and come back to have less crowds?

I contacted Windsor Castle and got this reply if it helps someone else - good to know the baggage storage is only for the state room and no where else.
Visitors to Windsor Castle must go through airport-style security measures on arrival. If luggage can be fitted through security scanners in an airport (i.e. the size of an item permitted onto an aircraft as hand luggage) it will be possible for visitors to take it into the grounds. However, in order to speed up this process, we advised visitors to travel with as little baggage and items as possible.
Visitors must keep bags with them throughout the majority of their visit. However, there is a complimentary cloakroom facility available at the entrance to the State Apartments as no bags larger than backpacks are permitted in the State Apartments and must be checked in at the cloakroom.
Should you require information regarding left luggage facilities outside of Windsor Castle, please telephone the Windsor Tourist Information Centre on +44 (0)1753 743 900.
Your arrival time should give you enough time to go through security and see Changing the Guard from with the Castle, however this cannot be guaranteed and depends on queueing times on the day.
