What a small but really interesting museum. We were about to go home but popped in to see what this museum had to offer. It was great and lots of hands on things.

We loved this museum which packed so much into a small space. Each display was clear, concise and fascinating. The mix of multimedia exhibits was great - videos, audio and interactive stuff for kids. We also loved the inclusivity, with features on queer Oxford and large print guides. Staff were lovely. Well worth a visit

What a gem of a hidden museum, so very interesting.
We particularly liked the table where we took each individual item off of a shelf, placed it on the table, and were told its significance to Oxford.
Can easily spend upwards of an hour here, very close to christ church college, so you would be able to do both in an afternoon.
Free entry, but we left a donation

This Museum in the Town Hall is a hidden gem. S many times I have walked past and wanted to pop in. Well I found the time and it was really rewarding. So much I did not know, including the immigration to Oxford from South Wales. It's not huge, but free, and highly informative. Oxford is not just about the University.

What a gem and only donations requested. Very interesting exhibits in a fairly small space. We really enjoyed ourselves. We also enjoyed the Cafe in the surrounding Town Hall building. I must mention the lovely man who was manning the desk by the Town Hall entrance. So kind and helpful and a real fount of knowledge

Such a great experience! The staff & volunteers were very supportive and informative; the exhibitions are varied, well-presented and great at building curiousity; the resources for children are well designed and very helpful for parents; and as you walk in, the main museum space is both welcoming and calming.
Signage to exhibition room 2 could have been clearer - only criticism I can think of.

This museum is small and certainly worth a look for an hour at the most. It tells many stories about Oxford although some like the exhibit on Iraqi women appear out of place

Hello, thank you for your review! 'Of Ordinary Things' is a temporary display of artwork created by Iraqi women who live in Oxfordshire, and as a museum telling the stories of Oxford and its people past and present, we feel it fits well within our displays and our programme of temporary exhibitions. We will think about how to make that context clearer to visitors, so thank you for your feedback - we're always keen to change and improve.
We agree that one hour is a good length which will allow for getting a good overview of the galleries - although we've seen our visitors spend anything from a quick 10-minute walk through to see one or two objects, to a good few hours delving deeper into the oral histories, videos and many interactive elements.

Really enjoyed finding out more about my home city.
The museum has recently reopened after several years and I was very excited to go round - it was great - I want to visit again soon.
Lots of exciting new displays but also some old favourites like the bone pavement and painting of the Siege of Oxford.

What a transformation. The refurbishment over the last couple of years brings the Museum back to life. With lots to see and do, discover Oxford, the people and places that made Oxford the City it is today. This visit was part of a school trip students aged approx. 14 years and they certainly got stuck in. Trying on clothes, digging for buried treasures, listening to stories and discovering so much more on the interactive table.
Although the Museum is small it is well worth a visit. The staff are friendly and informative, a great gift shop and only a short distance from Carfax. Our wheelchair user rated it very highly and found lots he could join in with.

I would not particularly recommend a visit to the museum and the attached public library. It’s a fairly average rating in my view..

The public library, since the 1970s, has been housed within the Westgate shopping centre, not in the Town Hall building. The new Museum of Oxford, opened on the 11th of October 2021 is a great place to come and visit, so we hope you do manage to some time in the future...
