This is a very different museum to the Tank Museum at Bovington. Overall it's about the size of a single hall at Bovington but spread through an indoor area, several outdoor parking areas and some smaller buildings containing smaller items. Plus it has it's own cafe.
Despite it's small size, it has some very interesting and unique exhibits. Perhaps the most interesting is the MKIV WW1 tank replica built by Guy Martin and friends a few years ago for a TV show. It's extremely accurate although it contains a modern engine for reliability. It actually works and you can see it run on event days. When it's not running, the museum are happy to let you climb inside and experience what it was like to be tank crew in WW1. There is also a more modern sixties armoured car which staff will be happy to show you and let you climb in. It's very much an active museum and you're likely to see some of the vehicles being worked on during your visit as they are actively restoring, improving and maintaining their exhibits.
On top of the vehicles there are several exhibits showing various other small items including weapons, uniforms, models and other historic items.
The cafe serves refreshments and light snacks.
I would definitely recommend a visit, it will only take and hour or two to see everything so it could be combined with a visit to another attraction on the same day.

A bit off the beaten track but well worth the effort to get there. £9 entry fee, plenty of car parking. Not very big but a good range of army vehicles, not too many tanks. Great staff, very helpful and knowledgeable. You could actually get in some of the vehicles, very good.

I’m not that interested in Tanks. I was passing so thought I would have a look. The staff were quite enthusiastic and this collection of vehicles has grown and grown since it started with one £600 tank which is now worth over £100k! They look after them well and I learned a lot that day. I didn’t expect to be interested but I was! Two things I took away-a Tank is the opposite of a Tardis in that they are huge on the outside but claustrophobic on the inside. Also, I still don’t understand how Tank drivers can see where they are going through such a tiny port!! I discovered I am probably too big to have served in Tanks. Getting into one was like potholing. The fact that they let you do so was the best bit.

Attended Armourfest this year. Haven't attended for a years due to Covid and being unable to attend last year. We were very disappointed with the experience. Seems attendance has increased but the facilities and event haven't. Hadn't realised the car park had moved so far away, amy wife struggled with the walk. Viewing at the main arena was limited and it was hard to get a good view. My wife struggles with mobility and climbing up and down the grass bank and then having to stand was difficult. Having a break was also hard as there was no seating nearby the arena.
Organisation was also poor. We booked the BV ride when we arrived and were given tickets. Queue was massive at the 11.30 slot so we waited till 2pm and boarded. We there then made to get off again as apparently our tickets were the wrong colour. We weren't told on booking that there were different colours for different slots, or what our timeslot was, nor was this pointed out on boarding. Of course, staff told us everyone was told about this, and blaming the customer is just not on.
The battle enactments were quite weak. We couldn't tell what was going on. The cold war display was quite bad as there were long gaps where nothing was happening. Some proper commentary would have helped, and would be better than listening to the commentator yelling at the ground crew. I suggest seeing how Tankfest at Bovington do them.
Generally did not really enjoy the day and left early.

Attended armourfest and the whole family loved it. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our children had the best day. Especially the guy who took us for a ride in the fire truck!

Are you open 1st April and are there tank rides available everyday?

Hi
Sorry, we don’t open Easter Sunday. We open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from April 3rd. We have rides each day we are open, weather-permitting.
Hi, we were thinking of going to your Easter event with our boy he is only 2 years 8 months old and was wondering if there was any restrictions on rideing in the vehicles. And if there was any activities which younger children would enjoy please?
Norma_haye

Hi,
The Easter Egg Hunt is aimed at younger children and the craft activities will probably be suitable too, there is plenty of colouring available as well as making Easter bonnets. The vehicle ride is safe for all ages, but it is bumpy and loud so it’s really up to you if you think it would be suitable for your particular child. There is an intercom and emergency stop for you to pull if needed. You’ll be able to watch a ride first in any case and then make a decision. The rides are extra to the museum entry, £3 each, all other activities are included. Hope to see you Saturday :)
