Interesting book store
lug 2019
We bought 3 novels, one by a South African novelist, and 2 by earlier 20th century British writers, bound in lovely simple grey with beautiful end-papers. We would visit often if we didn't live thousands of miles away.

What bookstores should be

Persephone publishes lovely books. The grey covers with a unique lining are aesthetically beautiful, but what’s more important is that the literature is a trove of gems being reexamined. The books give voice to women (mostly) who spent the last century being banned, censored, belittled, etc.

In the small shop, the staff is knowledgeable and personable without harassing you, giving you time to read and browse.

A brilliant and unique bookshop

An amazing selection of talented lesser known authors are given the spotlight at Persephone Books Ltd. The staff are really lovely, and the regular customers have a real passion for the shop and what they do. There is a real sense of community here. I would definitely recommend a visit.

What a wonderful bookshop, we bought loads and got a free bag to put them all in :) The staff were friendly. I loved the artwork and posters on the walls also. We definitely be back soon.

Bookstore worth a special trip

This bookstore is one of a kind. Featuring
works by neglected female authors, it feels like a treasure chest! The staff knows the collection and it is a perfect spot to discover a new favorite.

A must visit for lovers of good writers

Persephone Books was one of our most anticipated stops on our visit to London from Australia. It is a wonderfully warm and engaging book shop. The staff were wonderful and the small shop a destination itself. The books are, of course, wonderful. Highly recommended for lovers of good writing.

Warm welcome, delightful array of books beautifully published yet at very reasonable prices

Visited as part of a bookshop tour (see Bluestocking Books tours) around Bloomsbury. Lovely welcome for all of our group. Wide range of own publications, re-publishing excellent but forgotten and/or neglected books now languishing in unjustifiable obscurity. Beautiful quality printing incl typeface and paper, bound in a comfortable size that's neither too big nor small, means the books are a pleasure to hold in the hand and read. I particularly appreciate the endpapers taken from textiles or wallpapers from the year of the original publication, together with matching bookmark, so thoughtful. There will surely be something irresistable to any booklover or browser, whether to buy for yourself or for a friend. Will surely visit again.

Delightful Bookshop to Rummage in!

We saw this shop on a Sunday and it was open and doing good business. There is a wide variety of books, mostly reprinted ones which had gone out of print, and in the trademark grey covers. the staff were extraordinarily helpful and made the whole experience very pleasant. So lovely to see and experience a proper good bookshop where you can go and handle the books!

What a great little bookstore. We have a book called Quiet London and this bookstore is one of the shops featured in the book. Was sitting outside the cafe next door and looked up to see Persephone in front of me. I didn't even know the store was there. But lucky for me I chose that particular cafe to get a coffee. Went into the bookstore and was really impressed by their shop and choice to reprint and publish out of print books by British female authors. Some really neat stuff in there. Where else can you find that sort of thing? Nowhere I imagine.
