Mid way of the trio of edifices titled The Three Graces, it is a gorgeous build from 1917.

Headquarters of the famous Cunard liner company, its ornate features and attractive designs reflect the wealth and prestige of the business.

At ground floor level the acclaimed British Music Experience has its home.

This beautiful building housed the Custom House for many years after the old Custom House in Canning Place was destroyed in the blitz of 1941. I was fortunate enough to work there in the 1960' and 70's. At the time I probably didn't truly appreciate the beauty of it but the one thing that sticks in my mind are the ground floor ceilings which I always thought looked like a fantastic wedding cake.

Sitting between the Royal Liver Building and the Port of Liverpool Building is another of the three majestic buildings on Liverpool's Pier Head which make up the "Three Graces". This building is the Italian Renaissance/Greek Revival style Cunard Building which was built between 1914 and 1917. On completion, the building became the headquarters of the Cunard Cruise Line and remained so until the 1960s. Today, the building is still mainly used as office accommodation with, on the ground floor, an exhibition called the British Music Experience. In front of the building is the Cunard War Memorial. In a style which reflects the Greek Revival style of the Cunard Building, the Memorial commemorates the Cunard employees who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars.

My twin brother Stephen and I had just visited 6 pubs over in Birkenhead when we decided to jump the ferry back from Birkenhead to Liverpool and take in the stunning Liverpool waterfront.
Although our city has lost its UNESCO World Heritage Site status there's still no denying that the waterfront is still stunning and a major tourist destination, the Three Graces namely Port Of Liverpool Building, Royal Liver Building and The Cunard Building are amazing structures, all these buildings are well worth checking out.
The Cunard Building was constructed between 1914 - 1917 from designs from architect's William Edward Willink & Philip Coldwell Thickeness ,the architectural style is Italian Renaissance & Greek Revival, a beautiful facade, very photogenic indeed ,adding to the beauty of this building are the three statues at the front of The Cunard Building namely to Commerce,Industry and the lovely Pro Patria Statue, its a beautiful building, one I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area or planning to visit Liverpool and easy to locate on the Pier Head.

With the 12th of April looming and restrictions being lifted for the hospitality sector with pubs being allowed to reopen with outside service only my twin brother Stephen and I decided to jump the train down from Kirkby to Liverpool City Centre and visit some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for, we headed to the Pier Head and took in the sites and as part of The Three Graces which comprise The Royal Liver Building, The Port Of Liverpool Building and The Cunard Building we marvelled at the great architecture of our UNESCO World Heritage Site waterfront.
The Cunard Building is so beautiful, what I find amazing about the construction of this building is the date it was built between 1914 -1917 at the height of the destruction of world war one.
Architect's William Edward Willink and Philip Coldwell Thickeness incorporated several architectural styles including Greek Revival and Italian Renaissance, the building as a whole looks superb wether viewed from the Pier Head or Strand Street, from the waterfront you can see three great statue's namely The Pro Patria Statue, The Commerce Statue and The Industry Statue, these add to the beauty of the building, its a building I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area and easy to locate along the Pier Head.

The Liverpool Waterfront is one of the most iconic and beautiful in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there are three great buildings along the riverfront collectively known as the Three Graces, they are The Royal Liver Building, The Port of Liverpool Building and The Cunard Building.
The Cunard Building was constructed between 1914 - 1917 from plans by architect's William Edward Willink and Philip Coldwell Thickeness, the facade is so eye catching, a mix of Italian Renaissance and Greek Revival, the three statues of Commerce, Industry and the Pro Patria Statue add to the beauty of the building, it an astounding fact that at the height of world war one this building was constructed with men and materials at short supply.
The building is very photogenic, makes for some great photographic opportunities and is easy to locate along the riverfront of The River Mersey.
Most definitely well worth checking out if you're planning a trip to Liverpool.
