I visited Bury St Edmunds on 1 January 2022.
I was horrified by the amount of dog excrement on the footpaths which had obviously been there for a few days and well trampled in.
You had to watch where uou walked.
There was also human vomit on the footpaths.
I am very fond of the town and it is being badly let down by its street cleaning services.
The litter bins were also overflowing.
I have reported this but nobody can be bothered getting back to me.

What a lovely little town, surprised on what was on offer. A great mix of independent and chain shops, plenty of places to eat. Town was neat and tidy, no rubbish and the council obviously make an effort to look after the place. Everything's in walking distance ans also has lovely gardens attached to cathedral in the centre of town. Woukd definitely recommend a visit for anyone.

Ancient Tudor ruins, a whole host of wonderful independent shops, cafes and restaurants still in the centuries old buildings (which still look magnificent and charming today), a myriad of buskers (Bury St. Edmunds isn't known as Busker's Corner for no reason) dotted around the town centre, as well as all the current shops in the new "Arc" development, Bury St. Edmunds ticks every singe box ever conceived. This hub of music, coffee and unique shopping experiences is all held in the beautiful "old town" centre which is a sight to see. The new "Arc" development is a modern shopping district with loads of clothes shops (H&M, Topshop, River Island, Peacocks, Topman, Animal, FatFace, Superdry, and others). If Bury is a bit of a trip then make it a special visit by coming for the award-winning Christmas Market held every year in Angel Hill and the town centre. Maybe even stay a night of two in the spectacular, ivy adorned Angel Hotel

Having lived in Bury St Edmunds all my life, 40 years plus and being a national trust member, thought it was about time went i on a tour. Having been to a pantomime there every year almost all my life , which is highly recommended I must add,it was very interesting to find out the history and what happens behind the scenes. Free for national trust members it about hour and half. The chap that took us Rory I believe was extremely knowledgable and passionate
Who knew what claims to fame our theatre has. I took my teenage daughters and they found it of interest too. Amazing how the theatre operates and what incredible history. Well worth a trip.

The centre of Bury the town felt like walking back in time. It was so refreshing to see independent shops. The vibe I thought was laid back, listed buildings with lots in character inter-twined with modern day buildings has a good balance. Everything within walking distance, for a day out it’s a nice place to visit.

I liked the Xmas market so much I travelled by coach not once but twice in the same weekend - and enjoyed both days in town. On the first I saw most on the town little markets and wondered the street discovering treasures. Finding a great cellar bar in the Angel Hotel. On the second I visited several bars with cousin on a family catch up - enjoyed the amusements of the fair ( carousel & bumper cars) and returned home laden with gifts. Yes I will be visiting again. Both trips were well organised and I praise those working the coach drop off & the pick up stations - Amazing job!

Bury St Edmunds is a long established market town that was well known for it’s cattle market, to which cattle were “droven” along various tracks from the surrounding countryside. The historic cattle market survived until relatively recently but has now been redeveloped as a big shopping cum residential area. These shops and eateries are a good counterpoint to the more traditional “high street” shops etc in the older part of the town centre.

There are a number of car parks available – short stay or long stay – and, while some are within the walls, we found the easiest parking was in the multi-story entered directly off the Ring Road with only a short walk to the town centre.

The centre has lost some of it’s charm, but it still has the old hotels and pubs, including arguably the smallest pub in England, and there are lots of occasional happenings such as a major Food Festival in August, occasional antiques events and so on.

It’s lost a couple of it’s second-hand bookshops and there are lots more coffee houses, cafes etc than teashops now. However, if you take time to wander around there’s plenty of old houses to see, an occasional old shop front here and there, and odd bit’s and pieces of exposed old architectural woodwork. Some shops have saved little bits of extraordinary carved oak frontages in situ as points of interest.

If you want a museum or two you can get some advice from the little Tourist Office in the Cathedral Shop. The Council stopped funding the official Tourist Office so this facility is now run on a shoestring by volunteers in cooperation with the Cathedral Shop. The charming lady in there can suggest various things to do in the town.

We missed the Food Festival, (every August), because of conflict of dates but the market made up for tha with some lovely produce avalable.

Bustling little city tucked in East Anglia. BSE has everything you need to enjoy a day out. Loads of restaurants, pubs, and stores line the Central Walk. The Cathedral & Abbey Gardens are beautifully maintained, and provide plenty of free space for kids to run and play, and for adults to enjoy a leisurely walk through the gardens. Sometimes parking around the Cathedral can be challenging, but overall well worth a visit.
