The highlight of this park is a lovely, historic lighthouse built on a huge granite boulder - but to get to the lighthouse, you hike through a massive old-growth forest with magnificent views of Burrard Inlet and downtown Vancouver off in the distance!

The original lighthouse was wooden and lit in 1875 - this current lighthouse was built in 1912 out of concrete on top of a massive granite boulder. It’s still in use today although the light is now automated. You can’t access the lighthouse itself - it’s closed off by fencing. But there are some buildings surrounding the lighthouse with interesting info signs on the parts they played during WWII. There’s also picnic tables if you need a rest or some snacks.

The trail up to the lighthouse viewpoint are wide and very well maintained. The entire trail is a moderate loop just over 4 miles long with almost 450 feet elevation gain according to AllTrails.

Due to time constraints, we only hiked from the parking lot to the lighthouse viewpoint- it was pretty easy and it’s less than a mile to the lighthouse with just over 100 feet of elevation gain. So round trip we did less than 2 miles.

There’s a large parking lot at the trailhead that’s pay-to-park. We paid via QR code on one of the signs easily - we had good cell signal. It was just over $10CAD for about 2 hours so very reasonable.

The Point Atkinson Lighthouse Trail was a good-go, and highly recommended, but that said some improvements could be made.
Colleen and I stopped in right after docking, and following the Marine Drive route found the turn-in to the parking was an almost 180 degree turn, which seemed somewhat dangerous, so that could be improved. The parking lot and available spots was pretty good actually. The signage to the most direct-route leading to the lighthouse was lacking, and we had to ask other travellers for assistance. The path itself is not bad but could be improved, especially considering how much money is floating around West Vancouver. And again, at the end of the trail it's a bit confusing as to how to actually get to either the waterfront or the lighthouse itself, and we again relied on others to help us out.
All in all it was a really pleasant walk, and yes it does take more time to walk back up to the parking lot than it does to walk down to the water, but there's a few benches for us older folks to 'catch our breath', or as we tell others, 'we're just enjoying the scenery, thanks'.
We look forward to seeing some improvements next time on the mainland.
Safe travels, Paul

Uneven ground, not always clear where to go. Pleasant enough, but disappointing not to be able to get to the lighthouse.

This is a lovely hike! Even in the rain, our shoes had great traction on the rocks. It’s mostly downhill there, and uphill back. But really worth the short time it takes to see this beautiful place.

I read several of the reviews that indicated this was an easy hike. I did not find it so, both in terms of the steepness of many of the trails and the fact that the trails were pretty rough, lots of rocks etc. I don't necessarily want a groomed trail, but even though I hike a reasonable amount I would not call this a 'walk in the park'. If you have any physical issues you would be advised to skip this venue. We even saw dogs panting coming back up to the parking lot. It is very difficult to find a spot to park. I had really been looking forward to seeing this park/lighthouse, but I agree with others that it is a bit of a disappointment in terms of the accessibility and views one can get of the lighthouse itself. My best photos of it have come from the water, on the ferry to Vancouver Island.

Bring the kids, bring the dogs, bring grandma, there are many trails all reasonably easy. Bring a pic-nic basket, and sit on the rocks watching kayaks and boats float by. Great views to downtown Vancouver, views to Bowen Island and Horseshoe bay. Or, go for lunch to Horseshoe bay at the end of your hike, you will love the seafood. You will need a car to get here, but its all easy.

Easily accessed from the Lower Marine Drive road through West Vancouver. A history as a light house then for years, if not still a summer training ground for Junior Forest Wardens. The writer once enjoyed the youth program as a Junior Forest Warden. It was a marvelous experience scrambling over the shore side rocks, learning as well how to fight forest fires along the walking trails. Great memories. Today the Point still offers amazing quiet walks, reflective opportunity and a breath of forest and ocean air. Definitely a great few hours to experience.

Yhe Park itself is an amazing place but the lighthouse, not so much. It is really just the end point on the trail, not much to look at and you can only see it from a distance. Strongly recommend you hike to Jackpine Point instead. It makes for a good loop trail and Jackpine point is a far more beautiful place to stop as a destination point.

The Lighthouse is located on a beautiful spot. There are amazing views. You can reach the Lighthouse by following the Beacon Lane Trail.
