We visited MMF for one of their Wednesday talks. This one was about Humpback Whales and was totally fascinating.

I visited the center having already spent time with Melissa who joined our Peri-Peri Ocean Safari trip as a foundation researcher. She shared much on the good mission and yes, we were fortunate enough to spend extended time with a whale shark in water. Wow!

由"Queen of Mantas" Dr. Andrea Marshall在Tofo所設立的大型海洋生物研究保育機構，因為Tofo的特殊地理環境，成為多種大型海洋生物聚集之處，Manta 女王在攻讀博士學位時，此進行了非常多的Manta的研究，她最重要的發現是，一般我們稱的Manta Ray，其實分為兩種：一為Giant Manta，一為Reef Manta。MMF在Tofo做了非常多的研究與教育工作，每周在Tofo不同地點，舉行三次一小時的講座，希望讓更多遊客認識大型海洋生物，並進而一起保護海洋生態。MMF還跟Peri-Peri Divers 長期合作，進行當地的海洋生態研究。我很幸運參加Peri Peri Divers的潛水與Ocean Safari活動時，船上都有MMF研究人員，所以看到很多隻海裏的大傢伙，像是座頭鯨、鯨鯊、海豚。希望以後還有機會參與MMF的講座，甚至跟Manta 女王一起下海潛水學習！

Gotta do a huge shout out to these people. It’s a group of researchers working with the ‘ mega’ ones - sharks, whales, whale shark, manta rays and turtles.
I’d read about them on TripAdvisor but happened to meet two of the volunteers (Tia and Harry) at dinner my first night.
I went to all 3 of their talks on sharks, mantas and humpbacks.
While reasonably scientific, I learned a lot and have a new found appreciation for sharks lol
The best bit is though, when you go out with PeriPeri divers, there are researchers/ assistants on every boat who can answer all your questions and give you lots more information 😁

Great knowledge, very important conservancy mission. Book a safari through Peri Peri and someone from MMF will come along and explain everything about Whale Sharks and Mantas.

We had the pleasure to see and hear one of the assistant researchers during our Ocean Safari and dives at Peri Peri dive center. She explained the work MMF is doing by monitoring the presence of various sea animals as whale sharks, turtles and several types of Rays,by making identification photos!
A real great work.
Also the community work they do is great, making the local people aware of the treasures their ocean contains and how to preserve this.
It’s a pity the volunteers helping MMF are confronted with regular “visits” from the immigration authorities who always find some “irregularities “ and ask for “fine”payments.
This already leaded to some volunteers to depart and cancellations of the information talks.
A real great work.

Etant plongeur confirmé, c'est la première fois que j'ai pu effectuer des plongées avec des chercheurs. Et surtout apprécier leur travail et avoir des explications sur les espèces locales et vues... Je ne verrai plus de la même manière le monde sous marin...

I appreciate them so much for all their efforts. I have attended some of their information sessions held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and have found them to be quite informative. I hope that they get the support they need to thrive. Keep it up!

I dived with MMF on a few occasions and also attended a couple of their talks which were hugely interesting and informative. Super work !

Foundation is doing research, but also fantastic presentations three times a week for everyone and for free. A lot of super interesting knowledge, and rare opportunity to learn and help. Manatas, whale sharks and lepard sharks explained in their biology and in need for their conservation/help.
