The island is located in the east of the city, behind the airport. It is rather difficult to reach by public transport, but a taxi/Grab takes you to the ferry terminal in about 30-40 minutes.
You can go across when there are 10-12 passengers and the trip costs 4 Sgd.
You can then walk over there or rent a bike, which is probably the better choice. A look into one of the last kampongs is also recommended.
Otherwise you mostly move along paved paths, occasionally a bit of gravel, and are in the middle of nature. You can come across lizards, monkeys and many birds.
Considering that you are in a relatively untouched area, everything is designed to be very visitor-friendly. There are always maps and signposts that show you where to go.
Really a beautiful place away from the hustle and bustle.

A step back into the past. Visited in January with family (Singaporean wife+teenage kids) and local friend. Impressions of the island was a secluded bush forest environment with abundant wildlife eg. Monkeys, snakes, lizards & very few humans. After catching the local ferry ie. 12 person bumboat (note that they wait to fill all seats before departing otherwise you may have to negotiate a deal if the boats isn't full). Once you land & absorb the tranquility of being in a Kampong (village), its off to hire a bicycle of which there were 3 shops opened & they all had 2 types - standard and newer (identified as it has bubble wrap around the stem) starting at $S8-$S10/day. Tip - dont assume that the 'newer' bike is better as one of the bikes suddenly disengaged the handle bars from the wheel & became un-steerable. We stuck mostly to the roads which were more or less level but did stop to hike to the top for the amazing views. Afterwards, lunch was in the local village where despite the shabby appearance the food was great with Char Kway Teow a standout. Beware the 'toilet' which turned out to be a hole in the concrete floor (straight into the drain and into the waterway) with a hose to flush.
To conclude, a great experience & opportunity to see another side of Singapore away from the concrete jungle. Take lotsa water as it is hot and only 1 place along the route to replenish.

We've been to Singapore before and wanted something different from the usual shops / high rise / hawker centres etc - not that there's anything wrong with that.
I'd dome a bit of on line research and thought Pulau Ubin would be a great / different day out.
A taxi ride to Changi Wharf and a short (cash only) boat ride across to the island and we we off.
Near the jetty there's several bike rental places and a few local eateries. You get hassled a bit for bike rental and we ended up paying $8 per bike. Some have new bikes, some not. We just checked the tyres and brakes before we paid. They were bth OK, older bikes.
There's plenty of trails that cover the island and they're all well signposted and there's regular shelters and island maps.
We went one way as far as the German Girl Shrine - a great, easy ride and along the way there's several other riders, walkers, locals fishing, monkeys, butterflies and even an Otter.
We came back to the jetty area and grabbed some lunch which was good and cheap.
We then headed off to the Wetlands - another great ride - some pavement, some dirt, some inclines, but nothing too hard for fit people. Heaps of Monkeys, Wild Boars and other wildlife.
At the entrance to the Wetlands you have to park your bike (in a bike parking lot) and walk the rest of the way - don't leave anything with your bike, the local Monkeys will take whatever you leave.
The walk is pretty flat and there's a boardwalk that's been built that's really good. We also climbed up a lookout tower and got some great views of the canopy and Malaysia across the water.
Back to get the bikes and there's a thunderstorm on the way - we decide to ride back to the wharf and end up getting caught in a massive tropical rain / thunder / lightning storm. We end up soaked and in a shelter waiting it out for 1/2 an hour or so and we loved every second of it.
An amazing day and the island is such a throwback to what life was like - you can't believe you're in Singapore and just a cab ride away from the city.
On the way back you have to go through an airport style security screening when you get off the boat.
Make sure you take - Cash, Camera, Sunscreen, Hat, good walking shoes.
Great day out........

One of the highlights of my trip to Singapore is visiting Pulao Ubin. The bike ride to explore this place was such a relaxing time for me. Do take a boat ride which is only a few minutes. Then rent a bike from one of the locals. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars to view different birds. Give way to the monkeys and wild pigs. Don’t forget to bring enough water. Admire the different trees and plants along the trail. After the bike ride, order food from one of the small restaurants and just enjoy the view as you relax yourself!

This island is 15 minutes from SG by boat, but once you get there it's another world. It takes you back 40 years to a place where stress doesn't exist.

During mid 1800s, there was a fairly large Chinese community living on the island to work at the quarries. The colonial administration established large-scale granite quarrying operations on Pulau Ubin for the construction of the Horsburgh Lighthouse on Pedra Branca in 1851 , the Raffes Lighthouse in 1855, Fort Canning and its reservoir in 1858, the Causeway in 1923 etc.
Granite quarrying activities on Pulau Ubin peaked in the 1930s when private quarries operated on the island.
Besides granite quarrying, the island was also opened up for commercial crop cultivation such as coffee, nutmeg, pineapple, coconut, durian, tobacco and rubber.
Other activities included prawn farming, fishing and poultry rearing. Malay settlers also came in the 1880s from the Kallang River in Singapore to settle around the coastal kampongs such as Noordin, Mamam and Petai, hence they were fishermen.
By the 1980s, granite quarrying operations and rubber cultivation were starting to fold up due to the drop in demand for local granite and plantations were no longer profitable due to poor soil respectively. The population also dropped due to loss of jobs. By 2001, the population fell to below 200.
Today, Pulau Ubin offers visitors a glimpse of the 1960s charming kampong setting with a few wooden kampong houses and quiet roads with lush vegetations. There are a few provision stores, eateries and bicycle rental shops as it is now a popular tourist attractions. The quarries had been filled up to form lovely lakes.

My visit to Puala Ubin has been more than pleasant. It is a real getaway from the bustling city of Singapore into a total nature reserve with mangrove swamp, tree top viewing tower and amazing cycling tracks. A short distance from the famous Singapore Changi Airport lies the Changi Ferry Terminal and a short fifteen minutes boat journey will bring you to this natural habitat. There are miles of well build roads as well as pebbles paths for trekking and cycling leading to beautiful unused but well maintained quarry mines, tree top towers and special walking paths over the seas. It is a place worth going to for every nature lovers.

I signed up for a guided tour with Klook. Best decision ever! My guide Desmond is first class! He’s passionate about nature, knowledgeable too! He explained all the different flora, fauna and wildlife that lives on the island. The morning walk was well worth my time.
