My friend and I traveled to Seelow for the specific purpose of visiting the Soviet war memorial and the museum co-located there. It was a Tuesday, and after the best part of two and a half hours travelling (requiring a train from Berlin-Ostbahnhof and then changing at Frankfurt am Oder) we arrived to find that the museum didn't open on Mondays and Tuesdays - no mention of this on the web-site we checked out prior to our visit. As my friend said though, judging by the size of the building (about the size of a large gymnasium) I doubt we missed much. Despite this it was possible to visit the memorial and the graves there and to stand on the vantage point that looked out over the lower ground running down towards the Oder.
We also walked the mile and a bit into the town of Seelow and found the Tourist Information office just off of the market square. The gentleman manning it didn't speak English but my limited German was sufficient to get the location of the town's cemetery which is around another half a mile or so walk at the Western outskirt of the town. This is where a great many of the German war-dead who fell in the area are buried in long lines, many of whom are simply recognised as "Unbekannt" (Unknown). Also worth a visit if you're travelling to Seelow to visit the Soviet war memorial.
Note - if you're travelling from Berlin, the connecting trains from Seelow(Markt) to Frankfurt am Oder only run every two hours, and the Seelow Bahnhof is located over a mile outside of the town. There is nothing at the Bahnhof (not even toilets) as it comprises just a single platform with a display board and covered bench - check out the timetable online so you don't have to spend any time waiting here (as we did - over an hour).

Mindesmærke over det sidste store slag inden Berlin. Foran museet står det 2 russiske kanoner, en T34/85 kampvogn samt en morter og et Katyusha batteri. Udsigten oppe fra monumentet er flot og man kan nemt forestille sig, hvordan de russiske styrker under Zhukov angreb over sletten.
Vær opmærksom på at museet lukker allerede kl. 16.

An den Seelower Ziehen fand die letzte große Schlacht zwischen der Nato-Wehrmacht und der Roten Armee statt.In der Gedenkstätte mit seinem angeschlossenen Museum kann man in Wort und Bild die Schlacht nachverfolgen.In einem Film wird verdeutlicht welche Opfer die Schlacht gefordert hat.

Wenn man in der Gegend ist, ok. Lohnt aber keinen Extraausflug. Aber gut gegen das Vergessen. Junge Leute haut man damit eher nicht vom Hocker.

It is worth visiting this museum when you are in the Seelow area or if you are interested and in Berlin. The staff is exceptionally friendly and passionate and the information, especially the cinema with physical map with lighting effects, very informative.

More Russian propaganda, horrible place, do not waste your money, i would suggest that you visit the German war graves instead. Buy the map for 6 Euro and you have a good idea where they are.

I visited this museum whilst I was on a driving tour of Germany and was interested in seeing Seelow Heights what with its significance to the second world war.
The man who was in charge of the museum was very friendly and helpful in pointing out various sights on the battlefields, unfortunately the time of year when I visited much of it was covered by plants and foliage.
I was the only person in the museum to start with and the curator asked if I would like to see a film about the battle of Seelow in English which was very informative.
There are not many exhibits in the museum which I found quite disappointing but there are a few Russian guns/tank outside as well as a memorial to the fallen Russian soldiers of that battle, it didn't take long to take all that in. The museum is easy to find and if your in that area it is worth a look.

Es ist keine Freude, an den Gräbern der vielen jungen Soldaten vorbei zu gehen, aber gut und richtig, sich dann zu sagen, dass Krieg und Gewalt IMMER die falschen Konfliktlösungen sind.

Vorweg: Dies ist meine sehr persönliche Meinung. Ich bin der Ansicht, dass man diese bedeutsame historische Situation, sowohl für die russische als auch für die deutsche Geschichte nicht durch stundenlanges Stehen an dem Aussichtspunkt über das Schlachtfeld, angereichert mit Schlacht-Geschichten und Anekdoten würdigen kann. Dieses Konzept lockt wahrscheinlich, trotz großer Mühe, kaum noch Touristen hier her. Vor allem wenig junge. Es sei denn, sie müssen hier hin wie zu DDR-Zeiten. Sollte man nicht versuchen, junge und/oder alte Menschen über ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen mit dieser Landschaft und ihrer Geschichte berichten lassen? Fast jeden Tag werden Funde aus den Kriegstagen gemacht. Wie gehen heute die Menschen damit um. Früher Freund und Feind und heute? Es bleiben viele Fragen.
