Great, and low cost location to pitch a tent for the night close to Wellington. Really enjoyed the walk up to the top of this historical spot. Great views of Transmission Gully and the wider valley.

Great little reserve just off SH1 near Poirua. Lovely short river loop track, easy walking, with recovering native forest.

We enjoyed Battle Hill Farm Forest more than expected. The view from the submit was really picturesque and stunning! You will also see quite a lot of sheep in the hill.
there are a few trails for you to choose. We chose the summit loop that was quite easy to walk. It just took about 1.5 hours to walk. Just started from the camp area. The signs along were rather clear to follow.
It was a pity that we had no time to see the eels.
Be prepared it would be windy on the top.
Some people went camping when we visited there.

This spot is not only very picturesque but also has the best wild eels. I haven't seen so many eels roaming freely before in one spot and it was quite a sight. We fed them saveloys which they seemed to enjoy so I do recommend bringing the eels a snack. It was definitely worth the drive along Paekakariki Hill Rd to be able to watch eels swim in the wild like this.

I always enjoy Battle Hill park. It’s so good for so many reasons; walking, sightseeing, feed eels, swim, camp, picnic... in fact I am going again on Sunday with my church. I’m looking forward to it

Love this place. So relaxing. There are a few different walks around the farm. Lots for the kids to see and do. We always take our bikes to that the kids can ride all day long. We love to feed the friendly eels and go for a mini dip in the creek/river. Return visitors!

Great place for camping, trekking ,horse riding and families.
This is a historic site which there was a battle between Maori and the British.
As this is a working farm you will see lambs and cattle and can even feed the eels at the stream. There is a historic graveyard and a homestead onsite.
As you start the trek beyond the homestead it is a slow steep climb through the pines.
Once on top the wind kicks in and it can be strong. So strong that you may have to crouch, well it was the day I was there.
With views of Pauatahanui inlet and transmission gully and beyond it is well worth it

We managed to turn the bus and all had an opportunity to see and hear what the park has to offer locals and visitors. It was well used for camping as a public holiday. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun especially over by the creek.

We went for an evening run. There are a few options of different difficulties. The Summit run goes through beautiful NZ bush. Will definitely be back.
