Awesome walking area with great views. Great walks for all ages. Easy to let the young ones go as you can see them while walking with the older ones.

Its the place to hang, just order some fish and chips from the locals and sit on the grass and watch the world go by including the jetskis and all the rowers as well.

Great views. Great colours (on a fine day). Can get close to harbour in the car. Great backgrounds (hills and housing). Plenty of on water activity. A couple of good safe beaches (Dolly Varden & Plimmerton). Plenty of local cafes and the North City Mall. Pity about the obstructing rail line. Plenty of extraordinary lookouts (Cambourne, Baxters Knob [Aotea] and Whitby).
Its the largest estuary in the lower North Island and services a catchment of 80,000 people.

The water was duty and polluted. Even the ducks in a little stream looked unhappy. We walked around the south end of the harbour and the walk was pleasant with nice views but not somewhere I would recommend to visitors as a must see.

I drive past the harbour at least twice a day and love seeing it in all weathers and seasons. The reflections of the lights at night or the moon are beautiful.

Very relaxing walking and good views across the marina and water. Good landscape views, trees and flowers depending on time of year.

Drive to the end of Onepoto Road where there is a large car park, also public toilets.
From here you can take a short - or long walk - on a good track - first alongside some of the boat sheds and then the harbour itself. This walk is good any time of day, especially when blowing a strong Northerly as it is sheltered from this. Soon you reach a lagoon that has a good track around it and small bridge. There are information boards just past the bridge showing other tracks, times etc. You can continue from here on around the harbour past the anchored yachts, or if you have reasonable fitness up and over the hill to the beaches on the other side. What makes the walk interesting is the birds, boats, kayaks and wakas on the harbour, also trains and traffic across the harbour. Some people walk their dogs along the tracks too. All ages walk here. Enjoy the beautiful Porirua Harbour, as a family, teens, couples, friends or solo. The length of visit is up to you, 20 minutes to half a day, depending when you turn around to come back. You can take snacks and/or water, or on a nice day a picnic lunch, seated on grassy ground. Up to you.

The Harbour changes its outlook many times over the days and months and not one day is better than the other. Whether it is raining, windy or sunny it is always a lovely place to walk around and going along the walk past the Onepoto Boatsheds you see swans, Canadian Geese and other bird-life.

I love driving past the harbour, it looks different every day. I love it when it's calm and there's a reflection of the hills around. Also at night when the lights reflect off the water.

I drive past this harbour at least four times a day, on a calm day it is beautiful to see the reflections of the hills, rocks, birds etc.
