Visited 12 years ago and have a few changes . However museum closed , elevator closed to goto top of cross so bit of a waste of time and they still expect the full entrance fee to be paid. Most of the area taped off so a bit of a rip.off to be honest.

The museum is closed for renovation, as well as the memorial hall.
Not worth the visit until these two things open again.

Mt Samat National Shrine is located at an elevation of 560m above sea level at Mt.Samat in Pilar, Bataan. The cross has a height of 95m and is the 2nd tallest cross in the world.

Once you are on top, you will have an unobstructed 360 degree view of the Province of Bataan. And if the weather permits, you will get to see the view of parts of Bulacan, City of Manila as well as parts of Cavite. The cross is actually facing the 0 Kilometer landmark which is the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument in Luneta.

Before reaching the cross proper, you will have to make an uphill walk which will take a few minutes from the parking area of the shrine which you will be able to access only upon payment of Php 50 entrance fee.

Bataan is a sacred place for all Filipinos. It is where 75,000 gallant soldiers — Filipinos and Americans — put up their final valiant stand against the onslaught of the mighty Imperial Japanese Army from January 9, April 1942. Even if the Cross was closed for repairs and renovation, we were able to meet a historian named Hershey Mersayon, an artist who manufactures beautiful souvenirs of shirts and memorabilia. If any Filipino wishes to reminisce the glorious past of this nation, they must pay their homage to the heroes and patriots of Bataan, when we all fought as one.

Agree with other reviewers with the need to reminder readers: the shrine is closed on Mondays.

Definitely visit the shrine when visiting the Bataan peninsula. For the history buffs it is an opportunity to study this bloody battle through the maps, photos, artifacts, uniforms and weapons on display at the museum. There are models of the region that allow one to try to visualize the conduct of the fighting. If so inclined one could then step outside and take in the sweeping view of the surrounding countryside and imagine the carnage that took place here over 80 years ago. For those less familiar with this part of the the history of World War 2 in the Pacific a visit here is an opportunity to learn a little about what happened. We visited during a drizzly, somewhat overcast day but on a clear day one apparently has a good view of Corregidor Island and even Manila on the far side of the bay.

Visitors watch a video at the visitors center just past the entryway at the parking lot. Afterwards one could follow the road and hike up to the base of the Memorial Cross. The cross utterly dominates the local landscape, located on the highest point of Mt. Samar and towering 92 meters high and featuring arms that span 30 meters wide. The 92 meters represents the number of days that the Filipino-American forces fought the Japanese on this peninsula. It is one the largest standing crosses of its kind. There is an elevator that takes visitors to the viewing deck. We did not go up but one can imagine the imposing view from up there. The base of the cross features sculptures of significant historical events such as the death of Dr.Jose Rizal and the Battle of Lapu-Lapu.

We then took the the trail down from the cross to the white, colonnaded Shrine of Valor. As we descended we were treated to a view of the shrine and the backdrop of the verdant valley at the base of Mt. Samat and the waters of Manila Bay beyond that. The story of the Battle of Bataan was inscribed on the white marble walls. The museum was down a flight of stairs. I could spent a lot more time than I had available studying the many pictures they have of the battle as well as the many artifacts on display.

Nice museum and a beautiful memorial to those who suffered and gave their lives on Bataan. It is so nice and cool up here and the air is fresh and clean. It is a beautiful, peaceful location with excellent views of the surrounding areas. There are lots of interesting weapons at the museum along with lots of photos. Also the drive up and down from the site is beautiful and relaxing.

Beware....Mondays closed. And no sign or anything at the start of the access road to the shrine. Save yourself a 14km up&down ride if you read this. Luckily we were able to get to go the next day again. It is a place where you have to go if anywhere close to it. To pay respect to the fallen and to the horrible story behind it.
Drive it all the way from Manila if you have no personal connection with it? Lets say it is a long drive for that purpose
The elevator was in service but as I dont like heights so much was not eager to run it anyways. No biggy for me.
Few km long the main road there is a Filipino-Japanese Friendship Monument. Shows that time heals wounds and the Filipino are merciful?

This place is very relaxing, away from pollution and you will love the fresh air in this place. This is very amazing site , not only because of its beautiful memorial to the fallen men and women of the USSAFE, but the museum and memorial provides detailed descriptions and accounts of the actual battle which really helps you grasp the important event that took place here almost 80 years ago. One aspect I liked the most is its central location of the site on the battlefield. As you may look out over the Surroundings Mountains and hills you will really get a feel for the terrain and what the actual battle was like. You can take an elevator to the top of the cross for an even better vantage point. If you are interested in WWII history this is a must. But if you are not, it would be still being worthwhile to visit and learn a bit more.

The history of the Bataan campaign in World War 2 set forth in a museum at the national monument. Altar to the casualties and memorials to the units that fought the Japanese. Essential to understanding the Philippine people and their history.

Ito yung part na nasa highway ka pa lang makikita mo na yung cross because of the high designation of the place.

How many times din napasyal dun kung may bisita galing from other places.

There is an entrance fee before you get in sa may gate dun na rin sa taas.

Yung daan malinis, concrete, paliko-liko, maraming puno, and paakyat (enjoy the cool fresh air going up).

Sa top part malapit sa cross may park and parking lot din.

But if you like na mag exercise, walk pataas papunta sa cross.

Park your car sa entrance part.

The Cross has an elevator going up pero di ko natsambahan na open. (Sana matyambahan sa next visitor namin na pwede na mag elevator para makita ang view sa top.)

There are souvenir shops near the cross.

And there are times when the monkeys are near at sight sa may pine trees. Aakyat sila para magvisit din.

The museum informs about World war - about Death March Era.

The air is cool to cold depende kung what time of the year ka umakyat. (pwedeng magdala rin ng jacket).Looki

While you are at the top you can view down some parts of Bataan.

Surely, we will be back there if we have visitors again.
