Great experience for beginners!
I had only been spearfishing two times before this years ago. Not only was it very informational, but the guide definitely made us feel comfortable out and open water. We saw an incredible amount of wildlife, including a eagle ray, the size of a dinner table, massive stingrays, barracudas, wahoo, grouper, and even a hammerhead shark that initially scared the heck out of us, but our guide assured us that we were in no danger, and the shark wandered away immediately. We ended up spearing about five fish and having an incredible time. This is a very difficult sport, and takes lots of practice, but he made it very fun for newbies like us!

We went Spearfishing this past week with Diego. He was excellent. There was 6 of us in total of which 4 had never been Spearfishing. Diego was awesome with his instructions and very patient. He loaded the guns for us every time and made sure we were all safe and having fun. He put us right on top of some fish and is very knowledgeable about the area. My favorite was diving over a shipwreck (mamavilla). We ended up catching a very large barracuda which they made sure the meat was cut out for us to take to a hook and cook. Unbelievable day and I’d definitely recommend.

The reason I am giving a one star is because we were overcharged by $186 and We were pretty shocked at how unorganized our trip was. We had to go back to the dock multiple times. The grandfather Leo and I had arranged that the price would be 350$USD total. We paid a deposit of half online the night before the trip. When we arrived for our trip, the captain tried to scan our card through their digital card reader. Our bank cards stated it was fraud so we had to call the bank to approve the charge. Upon arriving back home we noticed there were three charges total on our card and there should’ve been two. We attempted to call the company but no one answered or returned our call. When we filed a claim with the bank, the company sent them an email stating we were charged correctly. We have still received no credit for our third charge of $186 and have not received any communication back from this company. I would not recommend using them.

Unorganized. I requested a specific date for a trip and they booked me for the wrong day. It was discovered we were booked for the wrong day and Leo switched it to the right day and said no problem. Then the morning of our trip he said our captain was no longer available and his boat was broken. This was booked months in advance and the one thing we were all super excited for. Unfortunately they are not a reliable company.

Bad experience. The communication and payment process was awesome, yet I wouldn't go again with these guys. I've tried other companies and had a much, much better experience.

My girlfriend and I booked a “experienced private charter” with this company. We both have years of spearfishing experience under our belt and explained we were comfortable in 30-50’. We were met by guide Diego and Capt Jose at the boat. Both of them were great people, always worrying about our needs and desires. Diego must have asked if everything was okay and if we were having a good time at least 20x which I really appreciate. Diego was very very detail oriented in his safety speech and going over the plan for the day. I explained that a cubera snapper was #1 goal for me and he said he had an area in mind. He put us on triggerfish, barracuda, cubera snapper, black grouper, lip fish and even a Spanish mackerel. We didn’t spear all those fish, but the opportunity was presented. I was able to get a cubera snapper and lion fish and my girlfriend got a triggerfish (tons and tons in the water). Diving here isn’t easy or for the faint of heart. The fish can be spooky, the current is RIPPING and you really should be comfortable to 50’. If you aren’t experienced spearfishing, this probably would not be the best place to try to start unless you’re okay with just triggerfish (they’re freaking delicious, so nothing wrong with that!). However, I feel that Diego could still put a total beginner in front of some good fish.

Had a reservation at 2:00 pm in Tulum. Staying in Playa del Carmen. Spent $150 for round trip transportation just to find out that “Diego” (the captain) was a SCAM! BEWARE!!!! Waited until 3:00 pm but Diego did not show up. None of the other boats knew Diego. When coordinating with customer service using FishingBooker, they were telling me a BS story about him trying to contact me. The phone number provided had been disconnected. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

Reserved a private trip with Diego for ourselves with our 7-year-old and grandparents. My husband has experience spearfishing and scuba but the rest of us didn’t. Diego and Manuel were so attentive and helped my son learn to snorkel and hold the speargun. Our son is very comfortable in the water and had some practice in the pool with a pole spear. This trip could have been personalized to match anyone’s skill level. Snorkeled in several spots and saw ship wrecks and tons of fish. My husband shot two trigger fish and the crew made us amazing ceviche. Our only negative was we were told the non-swimmers would be able to do some fishing, but once we got out there weren’t any poles, so my parents were just stuck watching us.

Thank you Sydney for your review, appreciated. Congrats on your husbands fish and good to ready you enjoyed the ceviche. Concerning your negative point; I checked what happened. On your reservation you asked for the fishing rods to do deepsea fishing. We explained that during spearfishing that ones that stay on the boat can not fishing with rods. The reason is simple: safety. If the captain needs to move the boat for some situation fast (could be that the people in the water have fish or an emergency), there should be no delay in taking care of the poles. We do offer combo trips. But never do 2 different types of fishing at the same time. I am sorry there was a misunderstanding but we did not confirm we would bring fishing rods for the ones that wouldn't spearfish. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you back in future for part 2.

We had a great time,first I we some spearfishing with a guide named Santiago. He was a very nice and helpful person. We did some reef spearfishing as well as wrecks. Then we decided to do some snorkeling in the shallow waters for the people on the boat that were less experienced in diving. It was a great day and we all had fun on the water. Definitely need to come back and do it again!!

My son wanted a spearfishing trip for his graduation! Well Diego was awesome with his beginners class. he teaches you everything you need to know. he is patient and non-judgmental. My son is "slight" build and not very athletic so he was unable to finish. Diego is support an emphasizing safety all the way - do only what you are comfortable with. So while we ended early, my son said it was the experience of a lifetime. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Please note that the activity is physical. You will need to have stamina!

Ciao, noi arriveremo tra qualche giorno a cozumel con la nave da crociera msc Seaside. Io sono un pescatore subacqueo esperto e viaggio con mia moglie e mio figlio di 11 mesi. Volevo sapere se era possibile organizzare un Escursione dove vediamo una bella spiaggia attrezzata per mia moglie e mio figlio e io posso fare pesca subacquea guidato da voi. Hi!! I would like spearfishing in the area of Playa de Carmen and Tulum near the shore, in shallow water( deep now I can not) where can get a license and a map with areas of the reserve ? Thanks

Hello. Tulum is a NO go from shore. Playa del Carmen is possible. But stay away 250 meters from docks and public beaches. So basically that leaves not much shore area. Above that there is a lot of boat traffic and the reefs close to shore are fished out. Puerto Morelos is a no go either. 1 map with the info of reserves does not exist. A license through Conapesca.

Hello! That is a big area you are asking about. In Q Roo there are may protected areas. Yucatan you have to go out far as the bottom only gradually goes deeper. Our area is not really a "from shore" spearfishing destination. Unless you are lucky being here here with a NN wind, then there are a couple of nice spots on the North East side of Cozumel. My family of 5 are planning on visiting cozumel 12/19-12.26
My boys love to fish, but have never spear fished. We are average to below average swimmers. No experience free diving deep depths.
They are aged 17,18, and 12.
Is this excursion something we could still do safely?

Hello Gina! Thank you for your message! YES, the trip will be done in a calm, and very safe way, while having fun at the same time. We, actually that will be guide Anibal, will get you comfortable first in the ocean in very shallow water, then we teach you how to freedive in those shallow waters. Step by step before we fish. We have a couple of new spots that are 15ft of depth that hold actually pretty good fish where beginners have a more than decent chance to get fish themselves. So no need to go deep if you don´t want/have to. When you book the trip, I will throw in fresh ceviche on the boat of your catch! Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know Gina. Our family of 4 is looking to vacation somewhere we can do some family spearfishing 2 adults 2 children ages 8-9, who are educated and practiced in spear/pole spearing in fresh water rivers in Canada and would like to vacation somewhere we can enjoy our passion.
Are vacationers able to bring their own equipment to Mexico via air travel? SpearGuns & Pole Spears with our free diving equipment? Are we going to in counter any trouble at customs in Mexico bring our spearguns and pole spears into the country?
When is the best time of year to vacation to Mexico for spearfishing?
Are there opportunities for Children agea 8 & 9 to dive some shallow reefs for spearfishing? Our daughter is learning to spear fish here in Canada in 2-15 feet of water and her bottom time is rather short....

I spearfish everywhere in Mexico and we ourselves have 6 locations.
For families like yours (Love the 8/9 year old already in the river!!) I would recommend Cozumel for sure. Many good, shallow spots, as it is an island almost each day able to depart, etc.
Best time for Cozumel is depending on your wish list. July/August are hot. September/October not many tourists. Fishing wise is good all year long.
The reefs we go out with kids have a depth of 15 to 25 ft with coral heads. Means they can dive 5ft around the coral heads to catch fish. Or dive down to the bottom to get lobster.

About 82F. Lycra/rashguard will be enough on normal days in combination with a towel to dry off in between spots. Some days a 2mm could be helpful (rain).

Yes you do need a fishing license Robert. There is no 1 public source to find all restricted areas. Generally speaking: 250 meters away from public beaches. 50 meters away from docks/piers. Not in protected areas like Marine Park and other protected areas).If you are in Quintano Roo (Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Tulum, etc) then drop mean e-mail. And I will inform you.
