The whole area is one big tourist attraction—or even call it a tourist trap. Restaurants are plentiful here. You can find the famous Pancho’s, or take your chances with the several others. The beach has safe waters. Vendors on foot try to sell all kinds of souvenirs. They will quibble on prices. There are all kinds of shops, some of them tacky and others worthwhile establishments. Most will negotiate on prices. One vendor offered a five pack of Cohiba cigars. They were guaranteed to be Cuban. I saw one hustler offering these cigars for $50 American (in official looking packaging). The price kept coming down, eventually they were offered at $15. Beware. They may be counterfeit. All in all, it's a safe area.
Those unusual looking little taxis are called Pulmonias. They look like oversized golf carts. Be sure to ask the price before taking the fun ride.

The biggest variety of restaurants in Mazatlan and souvenir shops. Huge hotels stretch from Valentino's to Brujas. Beautiful beaches and waves for surfers. I have seen many changes in the 37 years that I have lived in the Golden Zone. Great ocean fishing starts at the Marina. Boat excursions and parasailing are a regular event along the beach. Two 18 hole golf courses, fitness centres and spas cater to tourists.

This area of Mazatlan has the big hotels, nice beaches, wide boardwalk for walking or biking and many shops and restaurants. It’s a fun way to spend a couple of hours and to enjoy the scenery.

We love the Golden Zone. There is always something going on somewhere. We like the entire boardwalk. We walk it daily.

So much to see and the language is not a deterrent. If you don't purchase anything "good for you", but you miss out on the variety to take back home.

We walked in the golden zone daily. Felt very safe, although walking across the street is a different story. Be very careful as they will not stop for you. From El Cid Castilla its about an 40 minute walk to the Malecon walk way. Well worth it you get see so many vendors and people and other hotels

Nous cherchions un endroit pour passer une journée à la plage durant une escale en croisière. On nous a recommandé Las Flores Hotel où il est possible de passer la journée. Nous nous y sommes rendu pour 20US$ de taxi. L’endroit était parfait, tranquille avec une belle plage, belle vue.Nous avons loué 2 chaises et un parasol pour 25US$. Le serveur de l’hotel nous a apporté boissons et repas sur la plage. Possible de faire du magasinage sur la rue de l’hotel. C’était l’endroit parfait.

I have always wanted to visit Mazatlán’s Golden Zone, and I finally did in December 2022. I stayed at two different accommodations, and I found staying in the Golden Zone was the way to go, as there are many good restaurants, pubs, stores, and you are close the action. I found a store called, “By Cool” had the best variety and inventory on Mazatlán t-shirts, this is after visiting more than two dozen stores. The beaches are fantastic in the Golden Zone, and worth the time to take morning walks along the beach. Those looking for the Mazatlán sign, it is on the Malecon at the south part of the Golden Zone.

Hi there~
My husband and I are planning our honeymoon but want some quiet relaxation, great beach, yet have fun things to do. Is the golden zone loud and not romantic?
We are debating between all inclusive Pueblo Bonito either in the golden zone or the other location at Emerald Bay in Nuevo Mazatlán. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Emerald bay is far (taxi ride anywhere you want to go) quiet but not much else except the resort. Pueblo Bonita in the gold zone is a very nice location. Close to many restaurants. My preference would be golden zone. If I wanted to only stay @ resort & go to town a couple times, then emerald bay. Have fun!

OXXO is a typical 711 type store, they have everything you might need, and also some of the larger farmacia's. Just take a pulmonia to the grocery store...or Walmart. It's very safe.

The Golden Zone is a shopping area. I didn't see any RV Parks in Mazatlan,but I also wasn't looking for them. I don't know if they exist.

Considering a last min trio, we have been to Mexico several times but never to Mazatlan, we know very little about the Golden Zone, we are beach bar/restaurant type people who like to get off the resort, is this the area for us? Tks

Thank you for the enquiry, Mazatlans Golden Zone is a very safe option for new travelers to this area. Hotels, restaurants, beaches, and entertainment are high on the list of must do,s in Mazatlán. Costa Bonito, Costa de oro, and the Holiday Inn are musts on the Hotel lists, beach venues must include Panchos, Las flores, and Playa de mazatlan.
You will not be disappointed.

Most of the shops and restaurants are open , have no idea about Walmart, have been going since 1974 and never been there. Mazatlan is very festive during Christmas.
