Visiting this fort and surrounding area was a highlight of our trip. The views from the fort are incredible! We enjoyed seeing the remnants of the fort and buildings on the island too. Took us 90 minutes to hike both mountains, including spending time at the top to enjoy the view. Bring water and wear athletic shoes. Fort Rodney is an easy hike, with some very steep steps/ladder to reach top. If hiking to Signal peak from fort, first half is pretty flat and someone can wait at a grassy part if they choose not to go all the way to the top. The final 200 yards are rocky and you need to use your hands to climb some of the rocks. It is also very windy at the top; but worth the effort for the views. Best $10 I spent on the island!

My partner and I visited Fort Rodney on Pigeon Island on May 19th. We arrived on the causeway at 9.30am. We spent an hour or so photographing the grackles and kingbirds on the causeway as they were so close! (I’m a photographer, so we did a lot of birding!)
There are loos and a cafe on the causeway which were clean.
To get on the island it’s about £10 each.
The walk to the restaurant was about twenty minutes or so. More loos along the way too!
Then we climbed up to Fort Rodney.
Wear decent shoes. I had a pair of slip on Skechers which were ok but I’d have preferred something more supportive!
There is a steep trail by the restaurant and also a flatter, easier walk. We did the steep way up. I am overweight and I made it just fine in 30 degree heat! The hardest bit was the very last bit which was steep concrete then vertical steps! Hold on right if it’s windy!
The views are worth it!
When we hiked down, we took the easier route which was nice under the trees. We went to the restaurant for lunch. It’s not fast service but who cares when you have the view they have of the beach and sea! Food was very good too!
We walked back to our car (parked for free on the causeway!)
Feel free to message me if you have any questions! Only too happy to help :)

After quite a strenuous “walk” to the top of Fort Rodney, you are rewarded with a fantastic view. While others had less difficulty than us, the last part of the trail is quite steep, rocky and in the sun. Plan accordingly to fully enjoy.

As part of a group of moderately overweight, formerly athletic people, who vacation annually in St Lucia we’d seen Fort Rodney several times from a distance.
This year we went. It was fantastic. The views from the Fort and the signal point are worth the effort. When we got done we went to the little restaurant there and had great local food with a great view.

Anchored off Pigeon Island on the last night of a Moorings charter. Good holding, some traffic from the Sandals guests but nothing intrusive. Dinghied in to Jambe de Bois for a meal (a must-do; say hi to Liz from us) and hiked all the trails after paying our $10 US each to the Saint Lucia National Trust. It was Jamaica Day on our visit, so a festival was going on. Hikes are steep and can be slippery, so good footwear is a must. But the views can't be beat: you can look south down the coast of Saint Lucia, and if it is clear you can see Martinique from Signal Peak. Take your time and enjoy this sprawling park. Good interpretive signs on many of the fortifications to understand the history.

Stunning views from the top. It takes about 15 mins to reach the top and it is not a difficult hike.

This is a good historical experience but the government has done very little to enhance it.
Great views from both Fort Rodney and the adjacent Signal Peak.
The climb to Fort Rodney is moderate while the Signal Peak climb is more difficult with steeper sections of large boulders and no handrails or any other aids for people of lesser capabilities.
We could only imagine some of the miserable soldiers garrisoned here in their full length woolen uniforms watching us and exclaiming, "you climbed up there when you didn't have to? Are you crazy?"

Amazing views from the fort. You can see the Pitons and Martinique from the fort. The walk to the fort isn’t too bad. The other Hill on the island is much more challenging.

Very tired and poorly maintained. Oddly the entrance price is in US$ and not EC$ (the local currency).
The path to the top of signal peak is steep, loose and not an easy climb. Fort Rodney on the lower peak is easier but use the Rodney bay side path not the Atlantic side.

Staying at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian and took a hike. The view gives you a great view of Rodney Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Hiking to both peaks takes about 90 minutes to two hours. I would recommend wearing a good pair of walking shoes and several bottles of water. Hiking in the AM is better as it does get hot in the afternoon. Getting to both peaks does take some physical energy. People with physical limitations should consider other alternatives.
