Walk trough the clouds to get to the waterfall was. An experience I will never forget. Also burnt some calories. There are many birds on the trail especially the Jamaican blue dove.

As proof of our high opinion of the trip to Holywell, my wife and I felt that the 3-hours we spent there, which included a 1-hour hike on part of the Oatly Mountain Trail, lunch at the Blue Brew Bistro and the overall views in the park area justified the 3 1/2 hour drive from Ocho Rios on the scenic route (the old road to Kingston) and the 2 1/2 hour ride back using the Chinese-built toll highway. No way we would have (or could have) driven this route ourselves, particularly the last 20+ kilometers between Kingston and Holywell (one hour up and 50 minutes down) - a super-twisty, narrow road with some unexpected challenges such as a segment where a recent landslide left a narrow way through. Fortunately, we had Orando Comes, a driver recommended by the Jamaica Inn. There were some imperfections. The signage leading to the hike was somewhat deficient and wasted a half-hour. The Blue Brew Bistro on the site was on the pricey side, at least for us paying in US dollars at a rate of 125 Jamaican for 1 dollar - but adequate and convenient. A full and satisfying day. The hiking would probably not be enjoyable (or possible) in wet weather. The vast majority of visitors were picnicking Jamaicans.

Beautiful park and picnic grounds. The views are fabulous, and really shows off the rain forests of Jamaica. The trails are well-taken care of, and marked. The hikes are on the shorter side, but still pleasant. Good for a day trip. The drive up/down the mountain is treacherous. Best to go with professional driver.

It is a lovely place to go. A good place for hikes. For kids especially because there is a playground. It is really nice. You should go.

Camped at Holywell and Clydesdale as a teen and since my family (husband and 2 kids) and I are avid campers wanted to have them experience camping in Jamaica. Our flight got in on a Friday night and so we could not pay or reserve then and the office was closed on the Saturday. We opted to drive to the site on Sunday and got there at 5p. The ranger on duty(Adrian) seemed nice enough. He had us pick a site to set up our tent. We had our own tent and the kids had hammocks. All we needed was 1 campsite. He didnt seem to be in a rush to take payment and we were cool with that since he said he was working until the next day. The next morning he charged us US$70. I was dumb, since that was not the price on the website nor what was quoted to us in my email to the office. My husband was upset and I was so disappointed. We just paid and got the heck out. Our beautiful trip turned so bad so quickly. Idk why people see nothing wrong with ripping off other ppl. Just disappointing.

The drive here from Kingston is spectacular, although a bit nail-biting for first timers. Drive with care, make regular use of your horn going around sharp corners, and be prepared to stop to let big trucks go by. I find the best time to make the drive up is after 9am when most of the traffic will have already driven down the mountain. There are a few (but only a few) decent places to pull over and catch a fantastic view from the road into the mountain valleys. Take your time and if it is safe stop and take some pics. I have driven all across the USA and I can honestly say there are very few roads I have driven that compare with the scenic majesty of this road. On your drive you will pass through the Jamaican Defense Forces base in Newcastle. Pull over by the chain-link fence to get a beautiful view of Kingston and the ocean.
Holywell is considered a cloud forest so it is prone to be enveloped in clouds (which you will experience as fog). The circuit up and around the mountain is a well-maintained trail and offers three different overlook decks for beautiful views of the valley below and surrounding mountains (unfortunately there is no seating on these decks).
The park charges just $100 JMD for Jamaican residents but about ten times that (about $10 USD) for non-residents. Near the parking area there are some benches to sit and relax and you will likely see some hummingbirds. The Waterfall loop trail is an easier trail than the mountian loop with some decent views as well.

This place is so serene, you can hear your own thoughts. We loved it, its so peaceful and cool. Aside from your thoughts you hear birds and other insects. It has an amazing view of the city when the clouds are not present. Great for out door fun with the family, they have areas to light up a fire, ensure you come with the items you need to make your own fire. match, fuel, coals etc. You will also need to take food. Dress warm and bring along your hiking boots.

We entered the main door and explained we just want to take a panoramic photo. The official mentioned since we centered the property we MUST pay the tourist price , either the printed USD 10 or $130 Jamaican dollars. Even our tour guide couldn't hide her shocks with those exchange rate. Perhaps those additional exchange rate hours to someone's pocket? Since there is nowhere it mentions about the rate.
When we finally found the last $20 USD and paid him with response of laughter in disdain. We met another Canadian couple and she said the same thing. Either you prepare enough USD if not you will be peeled off with these nowhere existed exchange rates.
Just a note to be careful with these people even in a national park! Killed our mood in such a beautiful place with dirty mind!

The Blue and Mountain National Park is managed by Jamaica Conservation and Development Trust (JCDT).
which is a non governmental, not for profit organization whose main goal is to maintain and sustain the natural and cultural heritage of this protected site.
The entrance fees charged by the National Park is gazette by the Jamaican Government and used to maintain and develop the National Park and the rate of exchange used for USD conversion is guided by the daily rate set by the Bank of Jamaica.
We want you to be assured that the ticket agent at Holywell was not trying to scam you or rip you off and is guided by a set of directives that they must adhere to.

I was picturing Holywell as a vast network of trails up in the mountain. Not so much. a few trails, and their every much in nature, cooler temperatures, fresh air, worth it, just not an all-day trekking location.

Thank you for taking the time and writing a review. We love to hear that you enjoy the park, its nature and cool climate. Indeed it is not a place to do a full day hiking trip, for this we would recommend the peak trail. Holywell is mainly a recreational area, with BBQ pits and Gazebos.

Home to beautiful hikes and a visit one of the homes of the Jamaican Defense Force. Maybe a visit to a local coffee plantation could be arranged too.

I want to visit Holywell park over the day. I've seen that it's possible to take a route taxi to Newcastle, is it possible to walk the rest of the road to the entrence of the park? Or is it way to long?
How do I get in touch with the department that handles reservations? I would love to rent a cabin.
