Very pretty beach and fantastic to see. But not a great place for swimming- the current is very rough with a strong undertow and and in some parts there's rocks that the current will toss at you. Our taxi driver told us that there's black sand along the east and west coasts, so next time I think we will try Flamingo Bay.

First, you have to find the road to get down to beach! Any local will cheerfully help give directions. Not sure if we would drive down that road again! Narrow, bumpy, lots of big rocks and if it was rainy, would be absolutely trecherous. It would be better to walk down I think. Sand is Black! Cool to see. Did not swim here. Guess there is a cave with hieroglyphics but we did not see it.

Black Bay Beach is in a pretty remote location and there's no parking. We just followed the road until we could go no farther, then parked as best we could at the side. From there, the walk is an easy, level trek through a gorgeous forest and the ruins of an old sugar mill. The beach itself is isolated and the water quality (probably because of recent storms) was not great for swimming, but it was quiet, beautiful, and worth the walk.

Note: Other posters talk about the cave with Amerindian carvings, but we could not find it.

At first we were going to take our rental car. We decided to walk.

Nearby us there was a river. We enjoyed the the bananas nearby us.

Once at the beach, we examined the sand. It was black. I had heard that volcanoes can make sand black. Now, this was true.

There were boats here as well.

However, everyone either enjoyed the black sand or swim.

We had a great time.

Worthwhile to see!

This is extremely far from the main tourist areas. When I was there, there was nobody else. While it is cool to see the black sand, there is not much else to do and the water isn’t very nice when compared to other beaches. To get there by bus: take the 5 and stop at the entrance to Concord Falls, the path is on the other side. Should cost around $3.50 EC, and the walk from there should be around 25-30 mins, just keep going down. Good beach if you want alone time and to see the black sand.

Longue plage de sable noir. Bien pour la marche. Pas extraordinaire pour la baignade. C'est toujours intéressant de voir une plage de sable noir.

Well, if you haven't seen a beach with black sand, then by all means go to Black Bay Beach. To get to the beach you need to drive north from St George's direction Gouyave. When you get to the town of Concord, look for a sign on the right side of the road that indicates "Concord Falls". The trek to the beach is immediately opposite this. You can park your vehicle on the road, then take the paved road down from the main street. This paved road is in pretty good condition, but it is a steep walk down. Along the way you will pass by some very interesting plantations of bananas and other tropical plants. The path is well trodden although we crossed a steel bridge and went to the wrong side of a little river, and had to back track. When we finally got to the beach, the tide was coming in and the beach was very small. Then it started to pour, and I mean downpour. Still the beach was lovely. We took shelter in an old destroyed structure, and then lost hope and trekked up the hill to our car. On the way up we walked along the little river and past bamboo thickets. It was truly lovely.

This is the only black sand beach on Grenada, but it is difficult to get to and pretty small once you've hiked about a 1/4 mile off the main road. It is not for the faint of heart. First of all, it is pretty hard to find. There is a little road going off the main road opposite the sign for Concord Falls - it doesn't look like it goes anywhere. When we stopped to figure this out, the locals immediately pounced on us and offered to guide us to the beach. We reluctantly agreed. The longer we hiked and the further off the road, the more anxious I became, but our "guide" did get us to the beach. Once there the sand is indeed black, but as we were the only people there (with no cell service I might add), it was difficult to be comfortable. We were concerned about finding our way back through the jungle, but our unofficial guide said he would hang around and wait for us. Needless to say, we didn't stay for long and I'm happy to report he guided us back to our car without incident.

Black Bay Beach is truly an incredible experience.
The hike from the main road down to Black Bay Beach follows a road of sorts that is part of a private property. There is a sign indicating this. The sign also states that you are welcome provided you stay on the road, take only pictures and leave only footprints. As other reviews have mentioned this can easily be combined with a visit to Concord Falls.
The beach itself I would best describe as wild. The sand is deep and dark. The water is very rough, personally I would not suggest swimming there as it appears there is a steep drop off very soon after the water line. The jungle hugs the back of the beach and the ends are rough and rocky. There is a definite sense of times gone by with the abandoned buildings and old bridges.
The Amerindian cave is very, very difficult to access. Definitely not suited to small children, inexperienced hikers or persons with any physical difficulties. It is interesting though. Filled with bats just in case you an aversion to these creatures and you are thinking of visiting the cave.
The Black Bay Beach is well worth the visit (even without the cave). An excellent spot to enjoy a private, peaceful picnic and day. This is not a "public" place. No facilities of any sort.
