Having been coming to Barbados since 2007 and attending many gold cup days, I must say yesterday was totally spoilt but the absolute chaos and disgraceful behaviour at the betting booths. Myself and many others stood in a line, a queue, only to be abused and shoved by people who obviously don't believe in a queing system. They would come from both sides stand and force their way to the front, the others would be handing money over to them and getting their bets also put on. The ladies behind the counter even allowed this and did not tell them to queue like everyone else. Wen I eventually did get to the front and questioned why this was allowed the response was it's what happens. Surely this is unacceptable, there was no order or system of control in place at all, I cannot express enough how upset and disappointed I was at what should have been a wonderful day out.

A fantastic evening out, we paid BBD$15 each for entry to the races, and had a great night. The atmosphere was brilliant with a mix of locals and tourists. We as a family of 5 with teenage kids felt completely safe at all times and welcome with locals only too happy to point us towards the toilets, bar and betting offices!
Drinks are cheap and so are snacks. We managed to win and loose with almost zero experience on horse racing!
I would absolutely recommend an evening at the races and soak up the laid back friendly Bajan hospitality 👍🇧🇧

Had lots of fun with friends at the Barbados Turf Club race track. There has been horse racing here in Barbados since 1845. The officers of the British Regiment, who were stationed in Barbados, used what was then the parade ground to race their horses against each other, and the wealthy merchants and planters would come out and wager on the results.
Today the clockwise six-furlong track around the perimeter of the green is the location for the annual Barbados Gold Cup race for Thoroughbreds.
There is general seating in the stands or if you are lucky and know somebody you can enjoy the view from the Grandstands, owners, and trainers lounge, which overlooks the famous paddock below. Alternatively, you can stand outside the perimeter track fence and watch the racing from there for free.
TIP: We recommend that you arrive early to purchase tickets as we had to show proof of being fully vaccinated, and a photo ID, when purchasing tickets and again prior to entry to the track. It is best to have this information on your phone.

Following a recommendation from some friends we decided to but tickets for the race day in March.
We popped in initially when we arrived on the island and spoke to Mohammed who informed us we needed to come back on the Monday before race day when tickets would go on sale. This we duly did and he showed us the grandstand, explained the ticket prices and then advised us to chose our seats in the VIP section. He talked us through what we needed to do on the day and was just such a lovely, welcoming and friendly man.
On the day we arrived an hour before the races started and parked for free just across the road. We entered the track, picked up our cushions as Mohammed had explained and paid 10 Bajan dollars for the full programme/guide, showed our vaccine certificates and took our seats which were clearly reserved.
There was a large group behind us who didn't realise you were suppose to reserve your seat numbers who later had to move when other customers arrived with reserved tickets.
Racing began at one and so we placed our bets (there are several different areas to do this) and for English folk its more like greyhound racing in terms of how you bet than horse racing and then the excitement began.
I cannot recommend it enough, it was such a great afternoon out and far more exciting than watching horse racing at home. There are food stalls both inside and outside the stadium if you want food and plenty of bars. There were all sorts of folk there from locals to visitors and families. It was also lovely to see the people who lived close by watching trackside even though they couldn't bet etc.

This is a place for all the family to have a fun day out, and also for the more serious people who likes a bet.
The local are always welcoming to make you day enjoyable, foods stools are scatted around ready to tempt your appetite.

If you are staying at The Hilton or Radisson on a Saturday afternoon and want to do something different just a 10 minute stroll will see you joining in with the locals and seeing them at play. You can stand by the track with the locals having a bar-b-q and it costs nothing or you can pay a few dollars and go into the stands. We are not horse racing fans at all but it was a really great experience.

Brilliant day/afternoon out at the barbados derby !.
Cheap entertainment for all the family with great view of the whole track from the main stand .
A very different racing experience from a English race course which we all loved .
A must do afternoon if in barbados !.

Race meeting held every other Saturday throughout the year.
Barbados Gold Cup, first Saturday of March, is a must visit. Very good mix of locals and visitors all enjoying their day out!

There are race meetings vitually most months here and whilst they are enjoyable ,if you are on the island traditionally the 1st Saturday in March then Barbados Gold Cup day is the must visit occasion.All around the course apart from the covered stand is frèe to watch the races,get close to horses,see the starts and with tote kiosks available have a wager. it usually starts around 1230 and have around 8 races minimum.Before the big gold cup race which horses from USA and other islanss come over to take part there is the most fantastic colourful parade of bands,stilt walkers,and carnival figures. Around the course there are lots of locals,barbacues,parties and small catering outlets .Its eell worth a gisit

I'm not into racing, did this for the experience and glad I did. Great fun. Locals love the racing and are very happy to discuss the runners and riders with you, festival like atmosphere with plenty of food and drink vendors. Clear programme and PA for those who have no clue about the racing.
Betting was cheap and the view from the course is good (find some shade on a hot day). Free entry (there is a fee for the grandstand).
We stayed nearby and came down to see the horses having their morning swim on the beach, and event in itself.

Some reviewers have mentioned that racing happens every other Saturday throughout the year. I have been looking and cannot find that there is any racing in Barbados in October 2019. However we were told that there was a race on sat 12th Oct but cannot find out if that was true? Can anybody help me please? We are wanting to go on 19th October if possible?
