This is mainly for the locals as the place didn't look like it was well maintained and they have left it as it is. Good job on the various explanatory boards to give visitors some context and history. Felt this place was over-hyped for tourism. It's affordable and a pleasant way to spend an evening.

Majestic yet mysterious place and well preserved in most part. Every room has information for visitors to be able to imagine the family and their activities. Good spots for photographs

Le château de Kellie porte le nom de son propriétaire, à savoir William Kellie-Smith. Il surplombe la rivière du haut de sa colline. Inachevé, les parties restantes ont été restaurées et sont actuellement visitables moyennant 10 RM par personne.
Il y a un parking sur place que l'on paye 2 RM pour stationner sa voiture. De plus, si vous avez un appareil photo, il faudra débourser 50 RM (!) pour pouvoir l'utiliser sur le site. Ce tarif est très excessif puisque cinq fois plus cher que l'entrée même du château !
La visite se décompose en plusieurs lieux : les ruines de la demeure (le château) et les ruines d'une dépendance construite avant que le château ne soit démarré. Kellie devait aller chercher un ascenseur au Portugal et l'installer dans sa demeure mais il n'en eut jamais l'occasion puisqu'il mourut d'une pneumonie à Lisbonne en 1920. Sa femme ne revint jamais en Malaisie et le château demeura tel quel. Mélange de styles mauresque, européen et asiatique, il est unique en son genre.
Actuellement il est possible de visiter tous les étages, avec certaines pièces rénovées. Le reste est ouvert aux 4 vents, les animaux viennent y trouver un abri. Il est possible également de monter sur le toit pour y admirer une vue à 360° sur la vallée et les montagnes avoisinantes.
Compter environ 1h si vous prenez le temps de visiter tous les recoins. Des panneaux explicatifs sont installés à des points stratégiques afin d'en apprendre plus sur la demeure et l'histoire de famille de William Kellie. Attention, il n'y a pas de rambardes là-haut, il faut être très vigilant.

Nice historical place once in a middle of a thick jungle. William Kellie Smith 1870-1926 did not managed to complete. Still stands tall as a landmark.

Didn’t enter the place. The entry ticket was RM5, but was stopped just at the entrance because I was carrying a mirrorless camera. The staff insisted that I have to pay RM50 (10x the ticket price) simply for the camera. We requested to take back the ticket, but the staff refused. We left the place without visiting.
Keep your camera in bag before entering the place. I think it’s ridiculous for the additional charge. I didn’t carry tripod or other camera equipment other than a small Fujifilm camera. There is no photography restriction and everyone taking photos there, I don’t see the logic for the charge.

Great to see improvements made vs few years back. Good to know some of the history from the original Scottish owner to now. Love the architecture and views. Recommend for every type of visitors, and its very near to Ipoh. This are was also used to film 'Anna and The King' before.

Quite an interesting castle nestled amids palm oil trees, in the tropics.
Entry RM 5 for Malaysian with MyKad shown, twice for none citizens. RM for parking.
Ambling through the hallways and rooms, experience the owners abode, such history in this place. Get on the roof for some great panoramic view.
Decently maintained, though some repairs rather shoddy carpentery skills.
Quite a good place for some scenic photography.

the castle was a nice place for photoshoot in Perak. the castle was not full building but some area still give a nice view. it was a bit hot coz no tree aroud the castle. so better go in the morning.

Hi! Were planning to visit Malaysia on January 19-21, 2020. We want to visit ipoh, may i ask how many hours ffrom KLIA2 airport going to the Bus station going to IPOH? We will arrive at at around 1am, how many hours would it take going to bus station (for IPOH)
Which is more convenient taking a bus or a train going to Ipoh?
What is the Bus station going to Ipoh or the train station going to Ipoh? Is there an available bus during 2 am or 3 am either bus or train?

Hello bhengdelr.., I did not use a bus while in Ipoh. We landed at the airport very near the city and it was a 20 min drive by car to the city centre. The train station is pretty much in the city centre. I don't know about the bus station. Try looking at Google maps I think I saw the bus station that way.

yes, taxi is better but you have to first negotiate the price for a return journey.rm40 to rm50 is a fair price. bus is inconvenience n you waste time waiting.Best is to rent a car either from Ipoh or KL ( about rm130 to rm150 per day) n you can see n go to many other exciting places nearby.........Gua Tempurung, Herbal Garden......n other sites in Ipoh. Tq.

So sorry, am unable to help as I am not from Ipoh! We drove there in our own car. I think you will be able to hire a taxi from Ipoh, and ask it to wait for you, but I don't think that will be cheap. There may be buses, but I would suggest you make sure of the schedules, as otherwise you may be stuck at Kelly's Castle for ages, waiting for bus back to Ipoh.
I want to ask... At kellie castle, is there any tour guide who we can ask anything about the place?

Nope, they dont provide tour guide. There are some rooms that explains the history. Best you can do is Google & read while walking around the castle.

not really sure what the dimensions of the building are - but it is pretty big.
its a three storey building (including the roof), and there are a number of large rooms on each floor.
oh, and there is also a basement - but i didn't go down there!
easily walkable, except for the staircase - fairly steep.
