Jackson Lake Overlook. This is one of the places where a good view of Jackson Lake is possible and it is the last view of the Tetons, in profile, and looking to the west over the northern part of Jackson Lake. The lake is 15-miles long, 7-miles wide and 438 feet deep. There is a southbound pullout right on the highway, wide enough to get one’s car off the highway. There are no services at this pullout. It is also possible to walk down to the water’s edge from the pullout. If you are tempted to wade in the water, it might be helpful to know that Jackson Lake’s water temperature averages below 60 F°, even in the summer. From the Jackson Lake Viewpoint to Yellowstone Park’s South Entrance, is about 12 miles.

Being early May, it was fairly easy to experience many views of Jackson Lake; but this was one of the better ones.
Parking was plentiful and visitors were minimal; allowing for a leisurely and laid-back immersion into the surroundings.
This is yet another beautiful Lake, framed by magnificent mountains; to be experienced in this wonderous National Park.

You may ask yourself why a dam here??? The purpose of the dam is to provide water from the snake river for water storage for irrigation in the Snake River basin to the state of Idaho. Jackson Lake is a natural lake whose levels are raised an extra 39 feet due to the dam. You can walk across the dam and see how the construction of the dam was done. Below the dam you can also see the fisherman trying the luck of the fishing pole and the people floating the river for pleasure. Take some time and walk around on the short trails to enjoy this dam.

We stopped here on a rainy day and even though the clouds were low, we could still make out the view which was fantastic. Later in the day we drove past and stopped and the clouds had cleared. Worth the stop and many places to park.

its definitely a wow photo opportunity and its quite uncrowded and untamed - a refeshing change from the crowds in yellowstone

I've never forgotten the first time I saw the lake and the Grand Teton's in the background years ago. Seeing them again musters the same feelings and energy each time I stop by. The overlook is a great place to photograph the Teton's with the lake in the foreground. A quick hike down the trail to the clear lake will pay dividends - as we took a quick dip. The small rocks at the waters edge are hard on tender feet so bring your flip flops.

The view across this magnificent 18-mile-long lake from this turnout is very satisfying and very easy to enjoy. The northern Tetons on the far shore, beneath which there are no roads and no trails, invite contemplation. Dead trees from a lightning-caused fire in 1974, are interpreted by roadside display. And the moods of the sky and the clouds and the lighting upon the peaks change continually. Pause for a moment on your way to or from and reflect.

We got here a little later in the day, so the sun was getting low, which made for amazing views. This is one of many places to stop along Jackson Lake, all of which provide amazing scenery.

This is one of the best stops along the road to get a 360 degree photo of the Tetons. You can walk a bit and get varying vantage points.
