Major Historical Georgian Castle

This is the ruins of a major historical Georgian castle. I enjoyed exploring it and if you like ruined fortifications and Georgian history it is worth a stop. It is easy to visit on your way to Kakheti to drink some wine. If you don't care for ruined fortifications, you can safely skip it.

Only if you have a castle fascination

Apparently Ujar is in the list of 9 oldest castles in the world. That alone, for me, is reason enough to stop and climb the goat-track up. The view from the top, overlooking River Lori and Gombori Pass, is grand and explains why the strategic fort was built here. Most of the fortress is in ruins, except for a small church. The most picturesque structure is a massive tower, which makes a splendid backdrop for the Georgian Flag.

Es handelt sich um eine liebevoll restaurierte Ruine und selbst wenn man nicht an Burgen oder Ruinen interessiert ist, lohnt sich ein Stopp der tollen Aussicht wegen.

It is a lovingly restored ruin and even if you are not interested in castles or ruins, it is worth a stop for the great view.

Пустая трата времени и денег. Ничего особенного в этой крепости не осталось, да и вид сверху на окружающие горы ничего эдакого не представляет.

A third century castle

It used to be the second largest city in Eastern Georgian after Mtskheta well before Tbilisi was found. Seemingly not much is known about the castle apart from the facts that in early VI century king Gorgasali died of wounds sustained in battle with Persians here and the Arab invaders destroyed it four centuries later.

Yet, one can get an impression about a size of the castle once proudly overlooking the Iori gorge. A lower part, which consists of stone-made high walls is inaccessible from the main castle. To see the latter you'd need to go up on the hill, and a trail goes down towards the former.

Those fond of the nature will find this place really impressive, although the huge Bochorma castle situated deep inside this region in about 25 km from Ujarma en route to Sioni left me simply speechless. But it's not for everyone: wearing proper shoes is strongly advised, besides, it takes about an hour to walk up there.

Были здесь в ноябре в не самый тёплый и погожий день, но все равно захватило дух от красоты панорамы ущелья, открывающейся с самой высокой точки развалин старой крепости. Наш замечательный гид рассказал интересную историю этого места. Хорошо, что крепость начали восстанавливать. Немного шокировал туалет. Если доберётесь, передайте привет красавцу петуху Грише.

The old palace of last king of Georgia

Very beautiful forest and the river, and the ruins of the living palace of Erekle the second. The last king of Georgia. You look at the palace and understand how modest were Georgian kings. The place is very near to Tbilisi. easy to visit

Попали сюда случайно и не пожалели. Гуляли примерно час, красивый лес, живописные виды, древные руины. Очень интересное и колоритное место)

Старинная крепость на стратегическом пути

На стратегическом пути из Тбилиси (Квемо-Картли) в Телави (Кахетия) находятся руины крепости Уджарма (III-XII вв.). Крепость была расположена так, что проехать мимо нее по исторически важному маршруту - торговому пути и маршруту вторжения персов в Грузию, было невозможно: с одной стороны река Иори, с другой - гора, дорога проходит между горой и крепостью. Крепость в ужасном состоянии, реставрационные работы не ведутся, восстановлена одна церквушка. Но плата за вход исправно взимается. Обязательный к посещению объект при поездке в Телави и обратно. Отличается от "восстановленных" крепостей и замков Грузии своей первозданностью и возможностью оценить труд древних строителей. В летнее время возможны встречи со змеями, для детей могут представлять опасность также крутые обрывы и провалы. С трассы Тбилиси-Телави хорошо видна только западная башня, точнее, - ее руины. Со стен крепости открывается отличный вид на долину реки Иори.

Amazing fortress

It is 5th century fortress, untachable and amazing first capital city of Kakheti, king Vakhtang Gorgasali died in this place , it is so misterious place very beautifull and amazing, #trekkinggeorgia and descover the beauty of this place
