Did this hike from Khireshwar village near Malshej Ghats. This is known to be a moderate route. There are two more well known routes - Nalichi Vaat (considered relatively difficult) and from Pachnai Village (considered easiest). This is near the Naneghat range. The hike from Khireshwar is around 5.5 kms and took us around 3 hrs given it is a climb (should be around 3,000 feet elevation). The trail was nice and green, with many forest patches and good views of surrounding mountains. There are two rock patches which are not very difficult to climb but precaution is required. At the top, there is an ancient temple and little further there is Kokankada cliff with good views of mountains. This place does get crowded with many tents and folks staying over and rapelling activities. By road takes around 4 hours from Mumbai...plan accordingly.

Must go trek. Avoid during rainy season and can go just after monsoon. It was green everywhere and plenty of water available on the way. I loved the place. This is trek which is as beautiful as the destination. If you are new, please take guide with you. There are 3 routes via you can reach to harishchandragad first one is belpada little tough one made for hikers, we choose khireshwar village. If you are not very much on trek and all choose pachai village trek route as it is called the easiest route among all three.

One of the toughest trek I have ever been. it is Maharashtra's 2nd highest peak and view throughout is just amazing. Can't be described in words. Go there in monsoon and challenge yourself once in a life time.

If you want to spend a weekend that you will cherish for the lifetime then you should take up this trek to Harishchandragad.
It starts after a long bus drive of 180kms from Pune when you reach the base village named Pachnai - from there its a 2-3 hours climb to a place called Konan Kada - where you can spend your night under the moon in a tent. You will see beautiful place on the way including a Shiva temple, cave and exciting landscape.
As many photos you click you will never be satisfied.

If you are a hardcore trekker, Harishchandragad via Nalichi Vaat should be one of the top forts in Sahyadris in your bucket list.
There are many routes to climb Harishchandragad, but trekkers usually go for following 3 routes: Pachnai, Khireshwar and Nalichi Vaat in the increasing order of difficulty.
I went with one of the best organizing groups Dongaryatra for this trek. We left on Friday night at 12am from Kalyan in a private vehicle and reached base village at around 3.30am. We had a nap for 3hrs and started our journey after breakfast. The path is adorned with wild flowers and small springs of water. We kept our pace constant to follow timelines. There are 4 difficult patches on this path where you'll need climbing equipments and some professional guidance. These patches become more difficult and slippery in monsoon.
We reached top i.e. famous attraction Kokankada at around 4pm. And every step and effort was worth this view. I can't explain the feeling in words, it can just be experienced.
From here 5 of us started the journey for Taramati peak. Rest of the members tired with the long journey passed this. Major path towards peak is covered with tall trees making climb little uncomfortable. You'll also need to climb 2-3 iron stairs which are not in good condition but still sturdy enough to carry one person at a time. There is a flag and shiv-ling on top.
By 5.30pm we again reached Kokankada to view sunset. After clicking some beautiful pictures, we all headed to campsite to get settled. Whole day of exertion made our stomachs growling loudly. Finally at 8pm, dinner was served. Watery hot meal never tasted so yummy before.
That Saturday was Kojagiri night, so organizers had planned bonfire with hot masala milk. But light showering (in October) made us return to our tents. What a peaceful sleep we had that night!
And next morning came little too early. After freshening up, we had a breakfast and begun our return journey. This time we were taking Khireshwar route. It's moderate level lengthy route. On the way, we visited some caves, Harishchandreshwar temple and Pushkarani. At around 2pm we reached base village where tasty lunch was waiting for us. By 4.30pm we were back in Badlapur.
This adventurous journey full of beautiful memories will always be on top of my mind!

In this pre-monsoon period, get ready to witness a phenomenon which will just put you in awe of nature. The expedition to see and photograph the circular rainbow "Indravajra" in the Western Ghats can be seen on Konkankada at Harishchandragad Harishchandragad is an ancient fort from the Medieval period where the Great sage Changdev (Writer of the epic Tatvasaar), used to meditate in the 14th century. Konkan Kada is one of the biggest cliffs of the Sahyadri, fascinating many people from years together. Facing towards the Konkan side, the cliff looks down upon the Konkan with a breathtaking view of the surrounding region. Not only vertical, but it has an overhang, almost like a cobra’s hood. Kedareshwar: The cave of Kedareshwar has a big Shivlinga, which is totally surrounded by water. It is a beautiful 2-day trek. Also known as the trekkers' paradise. One can stay in a tent. You can rent it or carry your own. Renting costs around INR 600 per tent. You can have local Maharashtrian food cooked by villagers on the mountain top. Maharashtrian thali veg costs INR 200 and non-veg costs INR 250.

We went to see the 'Firefly Festival' in Purushwadi and came to know that Harishchandragad Fort is nearby. There are 3 routes to trek up the fort. We chose the easiest one through Paachnai village. It took us 3 hours to ascend and 1.5 hours to descend and we spent about 1.5 hours at the top. The trek is moderately difficult and passes through some beautiful waterfalls. You will be rewarded with spectacular valley views from the top. Above, you can visit Harishchandragad temple, Sapttirtha Pushkarni lake, Kedareshwar cave, Taramati peak and a cliff named Konkan Kada. You can even camp for a night at the top.
