Blessed to be able to visit the world famous Kashi Temple and get blessings of Lord Shiva. This is a the first place to visit when coming to Varanasi and start your journey only after this. Book a online VIP Ticket of 300/- per person to save some 2-3 hours of waiting in line. Be prepared to leave behind your mobiles/ footwear / bags so plan accordingly how to connect with your family / drivers while coming back or in case you get misplaced in the crowds

Uttarkashi was our stopover for Gangotri Dham. we reached here at 4 PM and there were a couple of stops that we visited, like Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Manikarnika Ghar etc...

It is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Uttarkashi, situated on the bank of river Bhagirathi. The temple offers a spectacular view of the river Bhagirathi along with the surrounding mountains.

It is situated in the main Uttarkashi on the Char Dham route. The story behind this temple is-

Lord Shiva considers this as his aboard from the second part of the Kaliyuga. Belief is that when Kashi or Varanasi will be submerged under water Lord Kashi Vishwanath will be shifted to this temple in Uttarkashi.

Believed to be built by Parashuram, the Lord Vishwanath temple in Uttarkashi houses the Kedar Khanda or Skanda Puran. Later, in 1857 Maharani Khaneti renovated the temple.

The tradition has it that this sage Rishi Markandeya had so much love and devotion to lord Shiva that the lord himself protected the sage the Yama, the God of death, who came to take the sage's life at this very place where the temple is situated.

there are many temples on the premises, one is Shakti Temple

which is represented here as a giant trishul or trident, which is estimated to be over 1500 years old and is regarded as one of the oldest relics of Uttarakhand. It has Tibetan inscriptions on it indicating extensive Indo-Tibetan cultural exchanges during ancient times. The details of the Naga Dynasty are found inscribed on the metal trident which is over 26 feet high, kept in front of the main Shiva temple.

Fact: One amazing feature of the Trishul is that it cannot be moved with your entire body force but it vibrates the moment you apply pressure with one of your finger

If you have time on your hands, you should not miss this temple

A landmark temple to visit in Uttarkashi, the location is about 500 mts from the main bus station. There are two entry gates and the temple complex is well laid out with temples of Maa Shakti and Baba Vishwanath, Yagna Hall, Drinking Water place, resting benches and all.

On the day of my visit the no# of pilgrims were less and so no rush for darshan.

Definitely visit this place on your way to Gangotri and spend some time. This will make you feel good and relaxed.

Om Namah Shivay!

Uttarkashi literally means the kashi of the north. Varanasi or Benaras in Uttar Pradesh is the place where rivers Varuna and Assi join the Ganga. The same confluence occurs in Uttarakashi too. Rivers Varuna and Assi join the Bhagirathi here. This place is believed to be the Ashram of sage Jamadagni, the father of Lord Parashuram where he beheaded his mother Renuka.
The temple of Kashi Vishvanath is a small and pleasant structure typical of the Himalayan architecture (called katyuri style) and houses the ancient linga of vishvanath. Right in front of the shiva temple is the huge imposing trident (trishul) of mother durga cast out of an unknown alloy. Its about 19.5 feet in height and also has the axe (parashu) jetting out on one side.
This temple is worth a visit when passing through or during a stay in Uttarkashi

I was initially a bit wary of popular temples after witnessing the crowds in Haridwar. But this is an extremely well maintained mandir. Luckily, the pandits too honor the sanctity, continuously asking people not to touch the shiva-linga. The queues are well managed, security staff polite, and the pandits non-intrusive. So you can actually share some quality time soaking in the divinity which reverberates in the space.
Traditionally, people take a dip at the Manakarnika ghat before visiting the temple. (the water was too cold for us, so we could only sprinkle some water on ourselves!).
The entire place is extremely clean too, thanks to the government and temple authorities. Despite the crowds from the char dham circuit.

I loved travelling to Uttarkashi. It's a small town with interesting market. Local market here offers all essentials to prepare yourself for Kedarnath. You don't have to buy everything before coming if you are planning to take break at Uttarkashi. Uttarkashi market has jackets, socks, woollen sweaters everything you need to gear up yourself. NIM ( Nehru Institute of mountaineering) is just there nearby 10 mins walk from there. People know exactly what are you looking for.

The Viswanath temple is one of the star attraction of Uttarkashi town. The temple was established many a years ago and it’s ancient facade is almost covered with modern construction nowadays. You can hear about it’s ancient past from the local pujaris who are always eager to tell a tale at your request.Uttarkshi is rich with Garhwali cultures and traditions and you can experience some glimpses of it here in the temple complex with local folk dance performances.Nestled amongst the bustling town at the banks of the almighty Ganges river, don’t miss to visit this holiest of the holy place of reverence,as die-hard bhakts, travellers, salvation seekers all are welcome here.
