Thanks to Mariana we had unforgettable excursion into the world of smells and aromas, tastes and touches of Chania's food and history. Mariana showed us secret places - I think even locals don't know. :) We have tasted many authentic local foods - all are very delicious. Also I should mention great historical voyage through one of the most fascinating places of Venezian part of the Old city and Chania's food market with story and tasting of different kinds of Cretan cheese. Marianna also showed small shop of very good hand-made local knives (see picture).

We enjoyed the tour with Mariana a lot. We started the tour with a breakfest where we had a mountain tea for the first time and tasted Cretan food specialties which Mariana brought with herself. Then we moved through the city and stopped at interesting places (some of which are mostly known by locals) where we continued to taste Cretan specialties like cheeses, cakes, coffee, raki etc. Mariana told us interesting stories about the herbs, local products and typical dishes in the historical contest. It is useful to read a bit about Crete and Chania before doing the tour. Being prepared will make the tour even more interesting.

Our knowledgeable and gracious hostess, Mariana, walked us through food preparation reaching back from Neolithic to modern interpretations. The menu was slightly modified to meet our needs, and with instructions and demonstrations by Mariana, we began the adventure. Most dishes were cooked over hot stones in her outdoor garden fire pit. Our meal, consisting of several delicious courses, was eaten in the shade of an old olive tree, joined by our husbands-all of us with hearty appetites, and enjoyed by all. What could be more

When I booked the Byzantine cooking class for myself , my husband and my 16th year old son I really was not sure what to expect. Well, what a wonderful surprise we got! It was an amazing journey through the history of Byzantine food, food politics and stories while preparing various dishes using replicas of Byzantine utensils. Mariana is a brilliant woman, famed for her extensive knowledge and research on Greek cuisine. We are very sorry that we missed her food walking tour. It will be the first thing we'll do when we'll come back to Chania.

Mariana is an extremely knowledgeable food historian. Her classes are fascinating, this is the second class I've taken of hers and I would recommend travelling to Crete purely to meet her if you're interested in the history of Greek cuisine. We got to sit under her olive trees and she cooked a variety of dishes for us all over fire. A very special day and very different from an average cooking class.

Early in August my wife and I had the opportunity to join Mariana and explore Chania through senses while delving into the city's rich history and food culture.
It was an unforgettable culinary adventure! Not onlyn we learned a lot about Cretan food history we also tasted the best local

Hors des sentiers battus, exceptionnel, rare, une grande chance, un riche moment d'échanges et de rencontres tous azimutes. Des visites dans les endroits les plus insolites de la ville. Des rencontres avec des artisans locaux et des producteurs des meilleures spécialités culinaires. Des dégustations à répétition. Et surtout, surtout...L'idée de voir et de savoir que vous êtes parmi les rares privilégiés à avoir accès à ces boutiques, échoppes ou endroits exceptionnels.
Mariana est un être d'exception, passionnée, cultivée, ayant le sens du contact et de la pédagogie. Très généreuse, n'hésitant pas à vous consacrer un maximum de temps, quitte à déborder sur le temps de la visite accompagnée.
Une expérience à vivre et à partager absolument. Je recommande vivement.
Mariana est un être d'exception, passionnée, cultivée, ayant le sens du contact et de la pédagogie. Très généreuse, n'hésitant pas à vous consacrer un maximum de temps, quitte à déborder sur le temps de la visite accompagnée.

Mariana offers an insightful view of Greek civilization through food using replicas of ancient cooking pots and ovens and recreating ancient cooking methods. The food was delicious!!!! And what a beautiful place for a cooking class - a very old olive grove! The historical cheese making and bread baking class is the best cooking class I have ever taken!

Mariana is a wonderful teacher and guide. We are 5 friends and we took the ancient Greek cooking lesson and the the historical culinary tour of Chania.
We made and ate hellenistic food cooked over a log fire in the beautiful garden with the olive trees and we baked bread in a replica of an ancient oven.
As for her wonderful walking tour, I cannot praise her enough. It is an absolute must even if it is not your first visit to the city.
