A family run hotel with modest amenities. The superstructure still tells tales of past glory and has seen better days. the zanana mardana( Dewan e Khas )is still preserved. The rooms in the fort are spread out and each is unique and the corridors leading to the rooms are exciting. The rooms are old air conditioning was available and the bathrooms updated. The linen and upholstery need an update. The food was simple made to order. It’s popular among Riders and horse trainers and experiential tourism. It appears training Marwar horses takes the trainers a notch above the other. Conversation with on such trainer said “ oneneeds a lot of patience” The highlight was the horse stables and horse ride for the children and evening dancers ( traditional Rajasthani dancers.) by the fire.

Dundlod is a small town near to Mandawa which can be visited in a day trip to the havelis in nearby smaller towns. Dundlod Fort is a small fort, presently still occupied by the local maharajah. The accommodations are open to people who are taking horse riding safaris with the maharajah. On the day we visited, the maharajah was taking such a tour with clients, so we were only able to see the courtyard and not actually inside the buildings. We would have loved to see inside though.

This is a HOTEL. It seems they may give a small tour. But when I reached at 11:00 AM, I was told to come at 3:00 PM for visiting, and asked to leave. This place was only one place in my itinerary for that day, and I had to drive elsewhere too. I had to skip this place. I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless you want to go stay in this hotel or are staying nearby.

A small fort in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. It is about an hour's drive from Mandawa, where one can stay the night. The fort is small, with some antiquities on display, well maintained. However, the accomodation available at the fort is, we were told, only meant for tourists who take part in Horse Sarafis organised by the owners of the fort. Understood - that translates to ''foreigners''. This destination can be part of a day trip in the region to look at the painted havelis of the region.

Must visit on the way to Mandawa to Nawalgarh or vice versa. We could see some vintage cars in the fort. The care taker explained each and everything nicely. Though it was a little difficult to reach this place, but the effort was worth it ! Sun dial on the roof top was a great surprise !

If you love India and you ride well this is the trip for you. My daughter and I arrived at Dundlod Fort from Jodhpur the day before Diwali in preparation for a week long horse safari. We met Bonnie, Mahendra and Sunayana and were given a tour of the stud farm after lunch. That evening we were treated to a candle lit supper on the roof of this magnificent old Fort. Bonnie is a charming host and passionate about preserving and promoting the majestic Marwari horses. The next day nine fellow travelers arrived and there was an official welcome fit for a Maharani. As it was Diwali there was cause for celebration with a puja and fireworks after dinner. Dundlod Fort is Bonnie's home that caters for guests. Our room was huge, with a dressing room and bathroom. It was unique and comfortable.
There were 11 of us on the trip for the full 7 day safari – each of us were given a horse that fit our skill level and even our personalities. Everyone on the trip rode well and our group got along famously. These exquisite Marwari horses are soooooooooo well looked after, are super fit and very well mannered. The whole safari ran like a well oiled machine. The food was fresh and delicious catering for vegetarians as well as meat eaters – the support vehicle was always just behind us making sure everything went well and we were all safe and happy, our luggage was in our rooms at each destination when we arrived, there was plenty of food, bottled water and sodas for us at each stop. After about a 3 hour morning ride we would stop for lunch at a shady destination to find it all set up and ready for us. There we would eat and rest in the hottest part of the day followed by a 2 hour ride to our night time destination.
We went to Rajasthan in October when it was still a very hot 41 degrees so cool clothing, sun hats, sun glasses and plenty of water are a must. The camping element of the trip was in the desert where the nights were cool and extra clothing is a good idea. Talking of camping – this is camping in style – real beds, mattresses, pillows and comforters all provided, not to mention hot showers and even a flushing loo........... Again incredibly good food, camp fires and beautiful yurt style tents.
This is not a trip for novice riders but if you ride well, enjoy long canters, India's beautiful, interesting and varied scenery you will certainly enjoy it. I cannot praise Bonnie and his team highly enough for a very well managed, friendly, exotic and fun trip. Thank you all so much for making this a holiday to remember.
