However could be good visit and spend sometime.

Awe inspiring church and beautiful white façade which takes you back in time to the Portuguese era in Goa.

Церковь Святого Духа

Католический храм возведён на месте индуистского в 1564 году в популярном у португальцев стиле - барокко. Позднее, в 1579 году храм разрушили мусульмане и лишь только в 1675 году его смогли восстановить. Вот с тех самых пор храм и стоит в неизменном виде. Перед храмом стоит символический хрест со сценами из библии на постаменте. Рядом растёт манговое древо, говорят что оно ровесник храма Святого Духа.

Beautiful Old Church

Perhaps the most important site to see in Margao.
This magnificent Church is surrounded by some beautiful old Portuguese style houses, some in need of renovation, hopefully before they get declared unsuitable so that a nasty builder puts up the usual ugly concrete monstrosity.
Easter the best time - completely full.

Equinox at the church

This spectacle takes place on every equinox day at the church of the Holy Spirit at Margao. We went to see same last year. The Church was packed to the capacity and the time was just before sunset. Sarvesh Borkar who discovered this was in attendence so also the priest of the Church. Just before sundown the rays of the sun illuminated the statue of Holy Spirit and two other statues. The church is exactly aligned to west and the rays of the setting sun pass through the centre occulus and the windows on either side illuminating the altar at specific locations. It is a beautiful sight, an engineering marvel to be more precise.

The interior religious decor of the church brought back memories of the palatial churches of Europe .This church which was originally built over a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Damodar has been in its present existence since 1675 .The huge cross inside the church dates back to the 17th century.During the Portuguese era this locality was called "Church Square(Largo De Igrega)" and was the centre of Margao.

It's a great church, although if u want to visit some old church , old Goa makes for a better alternative .

A casual visit to the church

This church is in the heart of Margao city, and can be viewed easily while travelling by bus. The church hosts it's biggest feast on the 8th of December, with the fair glutted with furniture and clothing items extending towards the ktc bus depot. It is said that the church roof is designed in such a way that during the evening, the sun's rays focus and fall at the center of the golden altars.
