Challenging walk for family with teens but very worthwhile, great views from the top across the beautiful bush. Even saw a friendly possum on the walk back down.

The walk up and back is 4.7 km and the walk up requires reasonably good fitness. The rock formations at the top are interesting by the sky walk difficult and dangerous to access as you need to clamber through a narrow rock opening to get to it. On the day we visited it was misty and some rain so we did not get the full view.

Need good level of fitness to reach lower platform, high fitness to reach upper skywalk. Worth going even for lower skywalk.

A lovely, albeit challenging, circa 2km hike to the top, before you need to navigate some tricky areas to get to the ladder. You will then be greeted with truly amazing views.
It is worth traveling a long way to check this place out. As it is close to Bluff Knoll, if you're doing that, you certainly want to check out Castle Rock too.

Just as it was an island in the time of the dinosaurs, now the Porongurup Range looks like a granite island in the middle of the surrounding flat terrain. In its 15 km of length, the profile of this granite mountain, visible when at Mount Barker you turn into Porongurup Rd, shows some peaks the most spectacular among them, but not the highest, is Castle Rock. Located in the east part of the Porongurup Range, Castle Rock is 570m high and due to the fact that it stands like a castle on the top of the surrounding range, it was chosen for the construction of the Granite Skywalk. The Granite Skywalk, a steel path that follows one side of Castle Rock almost to its top, has thus become the main tourist attraction of this national park. However, if a person does not want to tackle the relatively difficult path to reach the Sky Walk, at the foot of Castle Rock there is still a beautiful lookout that allows you to see the whole surrounding area beyond the 'Balancing Rock' which you see just a few meters before the end of the path. The car park is located about 400 m from the paved Porongurup Rd, it is easy to access by any car, equipped with a toilet, picnic tables and with some interesting explanatory signs. From the car park starts a well maintained path that proceeds in the thick vegetation, (mostly in shade), for 2.2 km (one way) during which you climb the 270m difference in altitude from the car park to the base of Castle Rock. It is a path that can be a bit tiring but not difficult also because in the few points of greatest slope some steps have been made in the ground. When you reach the top you will find large rocks coming out of the vegetation: one of them in the Balancing Rock: a 6-meter-high granite boulder that is in an incredible balance on a much bigger rock. Access to Castle Rock takes place by passing an opening between two rocks, that are leaning against each other, which can be reached by climbing a vertical drop of almost 4 m in which one helps by clinging to a series of grab handles bolted onto the granite. This is the most challenging step since the grab handles will then have to be used just before reaching the ladder but for a smaller difference in height. The 7m steel ladder is equipped with a fall protection and therefore does not present particular difficulties for people in normal physical conditions. This ladder leads to the Granite Skywalk, a very safe steel path that follows only one side of Castle Rock almost to its top. For those who do not want to do this last and slightly more difficult part of the climbing there is always the excellent lookout at the base of Castle Rock.

The info board says 2.2km - but also says 2 hours ... so it's mostly uphill. On our day, a storm was coming in so we grabbed the sunny opportunity. By the time we reached the top, the winds were raging so didn't get to the 'skywalk' but the views were spectacular none-the-less ... and the rock formations amazing.
Definitely recommend - put aside 2 hours and take your time.

drobe into the Mational park and paid for the enterance fee. started the walk of 2kms (one way) to the summit. the climb was moderate although you have to be watchful you don't trip over rising tree roots and loose rocks. saw the balancing rock near the end of the climb. we reached the top and went to the lookout. this provided a good view of the Park. we then headed up to the Skywalk. we used the handlebars that were installed to the rocks and followed others . up one level and over a large rock, up a 7m ladder and onto the Skywalker. view was amazing! the climb down was much easier and seemed shorted. definitely worth the trip.

The walk is "only" 2.2 km but all uphill so moderate fitness is required. At 53 I certainly found it challenging (especially trying to keep up with a 13yr old) but manageable. It was a lovely Spring day - cloudy but not raining and I wished I'd worn short pants as I got quite hot. Lots of stops on the way up and the final scramble over rocks to reach the skywalk is quite challenging if you are not very flexible. The view from the top was great (windy though so mind your hat!) and as always the sense of achievement for making it was a good feeling. Coming down was much easier.

The walk is challenging - steep sections with large step ups but a really well done track and we’re not serious walkers and have general fitness. If you have heart, breathing or joint /leg difficulties you will fine this very hard I think as would little kids. About 2.5 kms but feels like 4-5ks!! We set off at 8.30am and it was fairly hot then but quiet on the trail up. Busier on the way down so pays to get there early. National park fees apply (we had an annual pass via rac).
Took about 2 hours all up. View at the top from the skywalk was wonderful - all round views for miles. Would definitely recommend - we both really enjoyed it.

Really nice walk. Just took over an hour to get to the top and there are 2 lookouts to choose from or do both if youre not too afraid of heights.
There's a fee for entry into this national park. There are toilets and also a ground walk which I believe is a shorter walk. There's lots of wineries around also if u want to treat yourself after your walk
