Fantastic place with very informative staff. My son and myself went twice the week we were up here. First time was Sunday afternoon and spent 2 hours getting a free tour around the planes outside the main building from a former Phantom pilot and then over to the Vulcan Bomber for a chat with a lady about the plane. By the time we had got back to the actual museum buildings we were out of time. So we went back today with a friend who has lived in Carlisle for the last 25 years and had never visited before and did all the inside parts and the outside again. Being told even more about the Vulcan from another member of staff (who's father was a Lancaster tail gunner and is mentioned in the main museum) . If you have never touched a Phantom or stood under the mighty Vulcan and want to, this is the place for you. The inside of this museum is a bit of a tardis, it looks small from the outside but the amount of info inside is astounding. On my first visit, the lady behind the counter told me they were planning a Falklands exhibit for next year, hopefully me and my boy will be returning for it. Keep up the good work chaps and chapesses that keep this place open. Unfortunately I cannot attach any pics for this review as my files are too large.

A good range of planes from a gyrocopter to a Vulcan bomber. If you are interested in vintage planes this place is worth a visit. The volunteer staff are very helpful. Lots of information about World war two flying and even about Britains early efforts in the space race. You may find you need two visits! I will return.

Informative and helpful guides and some splendid aircraft, especially good on Cold War RAF planes, including an Avro Vulcan bomber.

We're new to the area, having moved over from the east coast. Having been to The National Museum Of Flight a number of times over the years, we were very interested in visiting here which is right on our doorstep.
I don't mean it as a criticism but it's not as big but certainly great value for money and we found it very interesting with friendly knowledgeable volunteer staff who are only too pleased to be asked any questions.
I found the souvenir shop very good and quite reasonable prices and I've certainly got my eye on the kids Red Arrows overalls for the next time we visit with the grandchildren. I highly recommend this air museum.

This was an excellent museum on a very rainy afternoon! Neither I nor my 12 year old daughter are massively into planes but my husband certainly is! However we all really enjoyed our visit. The museum is well laid out with many interesting exhibits on local history and general impact of WW2. There was also an excellent room on Blue Streak which was v informative to this novice. There are a good range of ‘planes (smaller ones inside a shed larger ones outside) including the Vulcan. My husband was particularly pleased by the presence of a large number of fine examples of Cold War ‘planes. All the volunteers were polite, knowledgeable and really conveyed their enthusiasm for the project. Also shop was excellent. I am amazed that I have missed this museum on previous visits to Northumberland but would strongly recommend- even if not a massive plane person.
