Great Library For Downton Fans

We recently went to Bampton to see where more of Downton Abbey was filmed. Its quite low key but the library had plenty of information inside it and items you could read and then buy to do with Downton. Found the display really good and the lady and gentleman in the library were really helpful as well.

We walked the Downton mile and saw the various buildings that were used. Worth a trip for any Downton fans if in the area.

Doubles as Downton Cottage Hospital

We stopped in Bampton on a day tour that covered many of the filming sites for Downton Abbey. There's a real library that has books you can check out, but we just went into the part that had displays regarding the filming. It was interesting to see the photos as to how the village was transformed for the filming. Souvenir items were for sale and because it's such a small room it was quite cramped.

If you're a Downton Abbey fan, it's worth stopping in Bampton and seeing all the locations used, including the library.

We took a driving tour of Bampton (Filming Exteriors of Downton Abbey) following Bampton's guide.

If you are a real Downton Abbey fan, print out the driving tour guide on line as we did, and drive around the town looking for familiar landmarks. Since we are not devoted fans, all we could say is that the sights in Bampton could have existed in the late 19th and early 20th century. We were disappointed that there was no real center of activity or tourist office that we could see. We did eat lunch in the Bampton Cafe, which was fine, but again nothing that would have led you to believe that so much filming had been done here.

ドラマでは病院として登場する建物です。またこの図書館前の広場もよくドラマで出てくるので、ファンだったらすぐ気が付くのでは。
私たちが行ったときは土曜の４時過ぎだったのですが、すでに閉館時間後だったのにも関わらず資料館をわざわざ開けてくれました。資料館ではダウントンアビー撮影時の写真を見たり、グッズの購入ができます。

バンプトンにある Bampton Library は TVシリーズ『ダウントン・アビー』で病院として利用された建物です。なので、『ダウントン・アビー』のロケ地巡りツアーでは必見の場所とされています。開館日が特殊なので訪問日・オープニング時間はよく確認してから行ってください。

Located on the edge of Church View, which overlooks the spendid St. Mary's Church, and various other buildings which cunningly find their way into the Yorkshire village setting of the world-famous television drama. Located one road back from the main road into the village from Brize Norton/Witney, it's easy to find (just look for the steeple). Originally the old grammar school, its part in the series has allowed successful fundraising for a new roof to occur. And despite what some other reviewers have noted, being a resident of the village for the past 21 years, I can categorically state that it does a lot more than provide scenery for television and a retail outlet for Downton stuff. Staffed by three lovely local ladies, it's small but has the usual library facilities, including internet access and printing facilities. The Robert Vesey Reading Room periodically hosts small exhibitions. Well worth a visit if you're in the village.

Downton Abbey lives on to help

This quiet little village was taken over for filming exteriors. It's interesting to see how the location scouts are able to envision only using one part of the road or one section of wall. The library is small but lovely and continues to have fund raisers related to the use of their Downton mile. They've replaced the roof but have more to do. Go visit!

Not Much to See Here

Along with several others from our tour, we went into the library primarily to use the WC. We did look at all the pictures there and in the church related to Downton Abbey. My wife thought of this mainly as a gift shop and doesn't remember seeing any books to lend that you would usually see in a library. She did manage to buy three books on Downton Abbey and Bampton. The library staff were gracious enough to allow our tour group to use their unisex bathroom.

Very interesting; knowledgeable guides; charming venue

Having not watched any of the Downton series this was a charmingly enticing opportunity to "catch up"!! The library has a wide assortment of booklets, postcards, other items and the people were extremely jhelpful! The village is a delight; gorgeous Cotswold stone, charming church and it was simly lovely to wander in the Spring sunshine while others exclaimed the familiar sites from the "Downton" series!!! It was also heartening to learn that the benefit of hordes of visitors has enabled a new roof on the adjacent building ... this was excellent, not just for the new roof but that the benefit of tourist "invasion" was shared!!
