It is the most wonderful waterfall in east java I ve ever visited. It's huge, high, and beautiful. There are 3 spots which are tumpaksewu panorama just about 10 min walking from parking lot. Then the coban sewu which should be reach by walking down the concrete and steel made stair for about 30min and 600m height according to my watch altimeter. The third is goa tetes waterfall that you can reach by climbing up from telaga biru pond.
The total trip took 4hours and about 9km walking.
I went with satrio +6281219807325 as our guide and driver from Malang. What an excellent experience.

I have seen a lot of waterfalls and am a waterfall lover completely. But Tumpak Sewu took my breath away like few waterfalls have. It's amongst my favourite waterfalls in the world.

Go early in the day. At the parking, there are two paths. One goes to a viewing platform. You can ignore that if you want. Nothing special. Go if you have a lot of time.

The other path leads to the Tumpak Sewu waterfall complex. There are three waterfalls here. The path is adventurous, but not very difficult. There are steps and rocks, and it makes for a natural experience.

Just before reaching the main falls, there is a river/stream you need to cross, using a rope running across the width. That adds to the flavour.

The main falls is stunning. Water streaming down on all sides, it feels like a different world altogether. I was there for an hour, drenched to the bone though I was almost 50-70 metres away from the plunge. The view is majestic, makes you feel super small in front of the nature.

If you are in Java, Tumpak Sewu is a must visit.

Not only does it offer a natural tourism experience, but Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is a cure for longing to return there. An unforgettable struggle that paid off as soon as you set foot on the land of Lumajang. The place is spacious and offers the experience of exploring the size of the waterfall, making Tumpak Sewu one of the international tourist destinations in East Java, Indonesia.

It is still possible to go to Tumpak Sewu from Malang despite the broken bridge (due to the heavy rainfall few weeks ago). The bridge was situated about1.5-2km before the entrance of the Tumpak Sewu (unlike some drivers who told me that it took 20-30min of motorbike to reach the entrance from the broken bridge). The last part of transport by motorbike actually only took 5min. For someone who wants to walk from where the broken bridge end , it is equally possible. There is a small foot bridge for motobikes and pedestrians to walk but you have to pay to cross it.

The actual waterfall was very photogenic, we think it looks more breathtaking from the photo than it actually look in reality. The walk through the numerous waterfalls, caves and valley to the waterfall was actually more of a highlight to us than the actual waterfall.

We found the walk much harder than expected, unlike some who said it only take 30-40min to walk, it actually took us (and we are used to hiking)a good 45min -1hour (it took longer especially going back up to the entrance).
There were already many reviews about walking through the water and stream to get to the waterfall so we wont add anything else. However what we didnt expect was that we thought only a small part of the path would need crossing through the water, it turned out about 60-70% of walking involved walking pass small waterfall and stream (it was really fun to walk initially but after 10-15min of continuous of crossing through water, we were like oh my God ,how much longer would the path be like this). Lastly, please be aware of the fact that there are 2 river crossings, there used to be small foot bridges(I saw them from previous online review and was expecting that when I walked), however they were destroyed due to the heavy rainfall, now everyone had to wade through the strong current river which is actually a little bit dangerous even though there is a rope for you to hold on. if you accidentally trip over(as you cannot see the bottom of the river, there were some large rocks as well as smaller rocks which makes the river bottom quite uneven) and lose you grip, you can be washed down stream, not that you would drown but you might get hurt. By the time we waded through the river (about thigh deep to us), our shorts and the underwear were completely wet. So apart from having clothes to change, make sure to get an extra underwear for change as well.

Overall it was a challenging walk and one have to have some physical fitness to do it. Be prepared to be soaking wet. Also even on weekday(we visited around 930am) there were so many visitors (both foreign and local) which took the fun away (not really a hidden gem anymore like others said) and sometimes one have to wait to pass through. So Manage your expectation. Was it worthwhile to go? for us we would have said a definite yes if the 2 footbridge were not broken (wading through the water was not easy) and that there weren't so many visitors. Perhaps if one have to go, go really early say 4-5am and aim to arrive 6-7am, that would probably be a better timing.

Most beautiful waterfall ever seen. I only made it half way and wished the original route had been open to try. I am no youngster but it was tough. Don't be put off and the motorbike ride to start is fun.

Fairly unknown about with tourists at the moment compared to other places in Indonesia. Absolutely recommend fitting this in a 4d3n with East Java’s other attractions (volcanoes and hikes etc). The trek down itself is slippery and steep, but amazing all the same. Wear comfortable grippy shoes. The end waterfall is beautiful and makes for some great photos. NB - definitely use a guide.

We did the Sewu waterfall trek with a guide (Harry) and he was absolutely worth his weight in gold! Not only did he help us navigate the potentially dangerous waterfall in parts (you have to walk in the raging water and having a guide tell you where to walk and where not to walk was a God-send). Harry also took the most amazing photos and videos for us and preserved such awesome memories of nature at her best! Make sure you wear wet sandals (not thongs, you will potentially lose these) and be prepared to get saturated. There are also leeches along the trail so watch where you hang on to.

Amazing amazing amazing.

Anne from Bromo volcano tours organised our tour .. when we were in the uk.

We were met by one of the most friendliest and professional drivers at Surabaya.

His name Harry ... five stars ...

Our first trip was to tea plantations and Jodi pan
Courful village. The village needs re painting but def interesting.

The next day we visited this spectacular waterfall ... they arranged two guides that safely took us through the canyon and down
Steps and across metal bridges. The place was stunning. Our driver waited for us patiently ..

On our final day we visited mount Bromo
For a sunrise tour the experience was amazing but I thought it was overcrowded and we had to endure lots of
Waiting around. Not what I expected as I have never seen as many people On a mountain with a metal road and traffic jams ... I think the Indonesian govt needs to limit the
Visitors because it ruined our experience.

We were very lucky with the weather.
