I stayed 2 weeks as volunteer in the Finca and that was just amazing! I felt at home and enjoyed the disponibility of the hosts.
If you are looking for nature, relaxing time out of internet and fast life, good people to talk to, learning about gardening, birds, and yoga practice (&so much more), this is the place for you.
This place and the people there inspired me and will definetly continue to inspire my life.
Thank you for your smiles, the talks and this positive energy all around the finca!
I hope we will see each other again!!
with love,
Marine.

I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks working as a volunteer at Finca Pinguino where I was welcomed with open arms by the beautiful owners Simon, Soa and their daughter Lilli. After signing up for two weeks at the farm I soon realised that I wasn’t ready to leave and chose to stay for an extra week.
The farm itself is located on top of a hill, surrounded by beautiful forests. There is no wifi, making it the perfect opportunity to disconnect and fully embrace what the farm has to offer. The bedrooms are basic but comfortable. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, stove top oven and even a blending stick. A definite highlight is the compost toilet and shower which gives you a beautiful view across the valley.
The volunteering experience was completely different to what I was expecting. Simon and Soa are very enthusiastic to ensure that you have a meaningful, enjoyable and educational experience on the farm. They ensure that you never work “too hard” and contribute to long term projects that will allow you to leave your mark on the farm. It felt good after 5 months of travel to be working towards a goal. While there I did things such as building a box for the yoga mats, building an outdoor game, washing the dogs, planting trees, painting signs, gardening and a little bit of cleaning. The working days are short (4hrs) which gives you plenty of time to enjoy the farm in the afternoons or head into Canoa.
Included in the volunteering donation is plenty of staple food items such as rice, beans, oats and lentils. It was great fun getting to use the farms fresh produce to make delicious and nutritious meals, something that I had missed while backpacking. Having never cooked with things like Yuka, Soa and Simon are more than willing to help with meal suggestions.
I was also lucky enough to participate in/help with a yoga retreat while on the farm. The yoga classes were the perfect balance of being a challenge and fun. Soa is flexible in her teaching style and helps you work towards your intentions or needs for each class. Having not done much yoga before, I was a little nervous but Soa makes you feel so relaxed and helps make adjustments and provides pieces of encouragement throughout the class (which was especially needed in Power Yoga!).
I will never forget my time at Finca Pinguino. It was undoubtedly a highlight of my 6 month backpacking trip. The hardest part of going to Finca Pinguino was leaving Finca Pinguino. I will miss this beautiful place and the amazing people I met, forever.

Soa, Simon, and Lili were the kindest of hosts. Their empathy and presence is a true blessing. I worked as a volunteer on the farm for 3 weeks. The place is a sanctuary full of peace, love, and loads of laughs. I could not have picked a better place for my first abroad volunteer experience. I can't wait to see their project develop even further. The tranquility is sure to leave you inspired and recharged. I would recommend it to anyone. The place is so welcoming to all.

I spent three weeks volunteering at the Finca Pinguino and I have to say it was the best time of my whole solo traveling trip.
The farm itself is a paradise not only for all the beautiful birds that you can see everywhere, or for the crazy farm dogs, but also for its human visitors. I didn’t feel so calm, comfortable and connected with nature in a long time, enjoying the quietness of the forests and hills surrounding the Finca, practicing yoga and -most importantly- getting to know wonderful people there.
The French-Canadian family running the Yogafarm is incredibly optimistic, always in a good mood, openminded and curious to get to know their visitors until they become friends. They really want you to have the best experience possible on your stay and I loved to see how much love and dedication they put in their farm and yoga project.
And of course you meet the other volunteers, which in my case led to a new very good friend that I already miss, two weeks after leaving.
The work as a volunteer is a lot of fun, I loved to be able to bring in my own ideas, work on creative projects and learn about the experimental form of permaculture farming that is practiced on the farm. (Simon you inspired me to start my own compost!)
As a volunteer I also enjoyed the free yoga classes I could join twice a week on the yoga terrace, built on one side of the hill of the farm, giving you a breathtaking view on green hills, banana trees and eagles and other birds flying by.
Another great thing: cooking fresh and healthy with food from the farm! What can be better to get up in the morning, do yoga and then have a breakfast with just harvested papayas, bananas and maracuyas (including the lovely company of your new made friends + the most adorable farm dogs)?
To conclude, I can not recommend more making the experience to visit Finca Pinguino and see it yourself. I will never forget these three weeks and couldn’t be more grateful to have found this place full of love, positive energy, nature, fun, adventure and happiness.

Oh we miss you too!!!! Your stay as a VOLUNTEER for those 3 weeks was magical. It just felt so natural to have you here. You're yoga box is used everyday and once a week Lili makes it mandatory for all of us to play Molki (a game you shared and constructed on our farm). Thank you for those nice words and come back anytime!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights. We did the yoga retreat consisting of 4 workshops. Our experience was amazing and very inspiring. The owners Simon and Soa (and their cute daughter) do everything to give their guests a joyful and complete experience.
First of all, the yoga lessons were fun and adjusted to our level. Soa really tries to challenge you, but will always ask you how you are and what your wishes are.
The ecological farm was a paradise. There was a huge bio-diversity and also some animals you would find on a farm. Simon talks very passionately about the farm, which is very infectious. He truly wants to teach the guests and volunteers about nature and farm life.
Last but not least, the food. Cooking is important for them and they spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Us being vegan was no problem ar all for Simon and Soa. We could definately notice this by a look on our plate :).
Extremely positive people with great principles. Won’t be our last visit.

We volunteered here three weeks at Finca Pinguino doing farm work, yoga and enjoying a peaceful break from our backpacker travels around South America. We originally planned to stay two weeks but we loved it so much we had to stay for a third. We lived in a comfortable but rustic lodge, practiced yoga a few times a week, did farm work in the mornings, cooked our own meals every day and spent the afternoons relaxing in the beautiful environment.
The owners Soa and Simon were extremely welcoming and treated us like family. They've poured their heart and soul into the place and we were truly impressed. It’s a wonderful place to relax, practice yoga, learn about permaculture and of course get your hands dirty working on the farm. Simon manages the farm side of things and we really enjoyed working along side him on different projects like creating a new fireplace area, harvesting fruits and veggies, and one of our favourite tasks; forging/creating new walking trails in the forest that surrounds the farm. Simon was a great teacher and motivator, his energy is infectious, he inspires a great work ethic and is a great person to be around.
Soa leads yoga classes on a stunning terrace overlooking a valley of forest below. We hadn't practiced in some time however we loved her style, she adapts for different levels but also challenges you if you're up for it. By the end we felt we'd improved so much and loved the intensity of the vinyasa classes. We miss waking up and starting the day with a class on that terrace with the banana trees on one side and the misty hills on the other!
We can't leave a review without mentioning their gorgeous daughter Lily with whom we still miss playing games and passing the afternoons. The farm project is continuing to develop and we were glad to contribute our part through volunteering.
We will be sure to return one day!

Lovely farm owned by a young Canadian family. Stayed 1 week in a newly built guesthouse (Best sleep I have had in years, thanks to the dark comfortable rooms). The farms is self sufficient with lots of organic fruit trees and herbs. One of the owner is a certified yoga teacher. We participated to a yoga retreat while there (3 days) and the teacher was simply top for us. As someone who does very seldom yoga I found myself easily enjoying the classes, which are adaptative and rewarding. I also appreciated the down to earth approach of Sue; less "spiritual", more joy, breathing and fitness. We also did some "on demand" horse tours. The kids loved the dogs. Finally, the beach town of Canoa is ca. 15 min away and makes a good break if needed. Highly recommended.
