Our tour guides Jody and Anna were amazing, warm, knowledgeable and friendly, they couldn’t have been more accommodating. I booked last minute and I am so happy for the opportunity to have experienced the auroras, especially with Jody and Anna! Highly recommend Alaska Photo Treks.

I had booked a 4 day tour and the first 2 days the tour was cancelled. My heart sank. On the third night, we were given the choice of "guest's discretion," I jumped at the opportunity. Our guide was Cory and he was very honest in telling us that there is minimal chance of viewing the aurora because the Kp was at 1.33 and couldn't get any lower. But he said, "you never know!"
He drove us to Knik River and he tried not to let us get excited, but Cory saw a glimmer of hope after constantly checking his app. Well, wouldn't you know it... Miss Aurora greeted us with a little glow, but had good vibrant colors of red, green, pink. yellow. The sky was so clear that night, the Big Dipper was so bright.
On the fourth night, I didn't think the tour was proceeding because it was so cloudy in Anchorage, yet Anna said it's a GO!
Anna and Jody took us all the way to Talkeetna! This time the aurora was spectacular! The Aurora was dancing and swirling, all I could ask for.
I just want to say that this tour company know what they are doing. They are trust worthy and will take you only if they think you will get to watch the aurora.

Such a great night out to see some northern lights. The aurora itself was a little faint, but Colin made sure that we were able to see it and capture it with our cameras. His coaching made all the difference in getting frustration-free photos. He shared a wealth of knowledge on the science of the aurora and found the perfect spot - dark and open with mountains in the background. A fun night I would happily repeat!

Had an amazing time on this tour! I enjoyed the communication before and after the tour. We were given the opportunity to cancel because of the lower possibility of viewing the aurora lights and I appreciated that. They gave plenty of explanation of why it may be harder to see and offered a refund or different day. They did need atleast 2 folks to go out to make the trip. I opted to go for the experience and I’m glad I did. Cory was our guide and he was phenomenal! It was me and three other people which I loved. It definitely got nippy at night and Cory left the van (which was very comfortable and nice) running in case we wanted to escape the cold. Cory provided us with plenty of information and awesome facts before and during the tour. We stopped on the way there to the bathroom and it’s about a 2 hour trip each way. We went to a couple different locations and at the last location, we were able to see the lights! It wasn’t super bright given the brightness of the moon however, much brighter when looking through your camera and taking photos. I actually used my iPhone 14 Pro Max and had great shots on night mode! Cory also took complimentary photos of us with his camera and made us hot chocolate and hot cider! Cory was incredibly kind, personable and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour company!

Alaska photo treks and our guides Terry and Chad were fabulous, professional, friendly and very helpful!
We had bad weather the night we were scheduled so the trip was cancelled. They went out of their way to get a second van for the following night and we a spectacular experience. They were so helpful with assisting us if we needed some help and accommodating throughout the entire night. Their complimentary parkas worked very well and they had tripods available even though I had brought my own.
We visited three different locations to get the best possible viewing and we would up with an hour of an amazing show!
I highly recommend buying their inexpensive digital book on "how to photograph the Northern lights". I am a pretty good photographer but the tips they provided so that I could prepare properly in advance were very valuable.
I highly recommend this company to anyone who is serious about having a great Northern Lights experience.
The pictures below were taken with a Canon 7D Mark II with a 24-70 2.8 zoom lens. 13 to 20 second exposure and ISO 1600-2000.

Our guide Rick was excellent even though it was overcast he was able to find an area that was clear so we could see the aurora unfortunately we couldn’t see it with the naked eyes but could see it with our camera on our phones excellent photos we took. Definitely recommend this group and Rick a very good person

We weren’t able to go on this tour as the weather conditions were not optimal to see the Northern Lights. However, we greatly appreciated the company’s honesty and integrity. They could have taken us on the tour anyway and kept our money but they didn’t. They were honest and upfront and refunded our money the next day.

Thank you so much for this review. We've had one-star reviews from other people who did not appreciate that we cancelled our northern lights tour due to bad weather. (Unfortunately, there are other aurora tour operators in Alaska who will run the tour no matter what the forecast.) But we are more concerned with ensuring our guests have a good chance at seeing the aurora borealis and, in turn, a good experience that they enjoy than we are with having that revenue. We are very proud of our data-driven process of determining whether to run the tour, and also take great pride in how we communicate with our guests. Thank you for your understanding - I hope we can get a chance to show you the northern lights again in the future.

Unfortunately, we were unable to go and view aurora due to poor weather. We were given two options to attend on a different day or get a refund. We couldn't make a difference day and had to settle for the refund. I must say the refund was action quickly and without any fuss on our part.
For this, I strongly recommend this tour, as they have proven to be a credible business.

Terry was great. She was so positive with the rain and helped us so much to improve our camera skills in Manual Mode. She took us to some great off the path places and gave a lot of great advice. She helped make the photos on our trip much better than they would have been otherwise.

Hello! When purchasing tickets the youngest age says 6, but in the details it says that infants must sit on lap. I have a 4 year old and am willing to take her because I do t know when we will be back to experience this. Is she allowed to come? I will happily buy her a ticket.
