Ronn and Marketa were fantastic! Knowledgable, friendly, humorous, engaging and helpful! Very informative and obviously passionate and excited to do these tours. Their enthusiasm was infectious, their hospitality, first-rate! The portraits they took, the rental gear they let us use, gave us amazing photos to cherish for a lifetime!!!
And Marketa’s hot chocolate definitely hit the spot and warmed us all up when we had been in the bitter cold for hours taking photos of the amazing Aurora’s we experienced that night.
Would highly recommend their tour to everyone, and would definitely do it again if we ever return to Alaska!

The best trip! I rented a camera and tripod from them, and it was set up perfectly so all I had to do was "point and click." They then helped me to modify mid-course as the conditions changed. Their Mercedes van kept everyone warm as they popped in-and-out throughout the night. They searched the meteorological conditions to find the right location for viewing, took amazing portraits of us, pointed us in the right direction, and stayed out as long as we wanted. We took over 600 photos of an amazing sky. My wife and I have already recommended the trip to our friends and even strangers on the train! They are the best--far exceeded my expectations.

Ronn and Marketa at Aurora Chasers are simply the best. Ronn answered all of my ‘pre-trip’ questions and made some great camera recommendations before we arrive.
We were picked up on-time, the communication throughout the trip was perfect. They 100% walked us through the camera set up process (and the instruction was made specific foru the camera I had). When we saw the Aurora all I had to do was take the pictures!
We stayed in Fairbanks the night of our tour and we had cloudy skies all around. Ronn and Marketa found a spot 2 hours away that had clears skies and, without hesitation, took us to the clear skies.
The Aurora was amazing and we only saw it because Ronn and Marketa took us to the exact correct spot. If we had not taken this tour, we would have not seen the Northern Lights.
While Ronn and Marketa cannot control the Aurora activity, the one thing they are awesome at was getting us to a location to give us the best chance of seeing it. Also, when we saw the Aurora, Ronn and Marketa were as excited as we were when the Aurora showed up. It was great to see them enjoy the Aurora like we did (and they have seen the Aurora countless times).
They have an easy to understand tutorial about how the Northern lights ‘work’, they provided warm drinks (and it was crazy cold outside) but above all they gave is a chance to see the Northern Lights and a once in a lifetime experience!
The van was spacious and comfortable. Ronn was always making sure we were comfortable.
Oh yeah, Marketa makes sure you get the best portrait photo possible (and it’s free!).
Just book with Ronn and Marketa. , quit thinking about it. You will be treated to the best experience possible!

Such an amazing experience! Ron & Marketa we’re not only knowledgeable but sincerely wanted us to have a great time. They were incredibly patient and gave us space to enjoy the incredible views. The scientific explanation of the Aurora and our capability to view it was so useful.
Amazed at how they break it down so you can take the best pictures in your own. The portraits they send you are just breathtaking.
We never felt rushed or herded. They even let you warm up in the van which is comfortable and insulated. This was nice since we had kids.
Unbelievably we got an amazing show with colors and swirls and arches and rays that were unforgettable. Worth every penny.
Thanks for this experience we will take with us for the rest of our lives!!

I went on tours with The Aurora Chasers, Ronn and Marketa Murray, for two nights in late September. The pre-trip planning went smoothly, and all my travel and photography technical questions were answered promptly and completely. The tours were more than I could have hoped for. We were fortunate to have very good auroras both nights, but the Murrays made the nights even better with their professional approach to getting us in the right places to see the Lights and to photograph them. Their van is very nicely outfitted with the necessary equipment to explain in layman’s language what scientists know about the aurora borealis, to explain how to set our camera equipment to capture the Lights, and to see what was happening with the Lights in real time on the TV screen mounted inside the van. Additionally, they have made the necessary modifications to ensure that customers can stay warm or warm up inside the van while observing the Lights during the cold night hours. I was particularly impressed with the knowledge they exhibited as they moved between different makes and models of camera equipment, including cell phones, helping everyone get the best possible photos with their available cameras. They also have a lot of rental equipment which can be used at a reasonable price. The Murrays were very attentive to the non-photographers on the tours, ensuring that they had a wonderful experience. Overall, The Aurora Chasers is a 5-star operation, and I would recommend it without reservation to anyone going to Fairbanks to see the Aurora Borealis.

I bought a new camera that would capture the Northern Lights. Having never used it before and having never used a camera setting except on automatic, I was fearful I would not be able to capture the northern lights, not knowing the proper settings. That fear was quickly squashed by the help of Marketa and Ronn. They were very thorough on instructions for everyone's different cameras. By the time we arrived at the area to view the lights, everyone was ready to capture this wonderful beauty dancing across the night sky. Both Ron and Marketa were right there for any help, if needed.
What a wonderful evening and perfect place to photograph, where water mirrored the Northern Lights. We booked two nights to strengthen our chances of seeing the Aurora. I highly suggest more than one night because our second night was cancelled due to snow and cloud cover.

What a fantastic magical evening we had going with you to view the Northern Lights!! You took us to the perfect location by water which provided beautiful reflective shots for the photos! The skies opened up and we were surrounded by fantastic moving lights in purple and green hues, even some reds in some shots! They kept coming back over and over!
We also enjoyed hearing and watching the science aspect in your talks and videos and great photography workshop!

The night started off with a very detailed tutorial on the best settings to make the most of your cameras. Not only on what to set them to, but an explanation as to why. We were advised as to where to set up to get the best shots. The biggest highlight for us was after a slow start the aurora exploded filling the entire sky with ribbons of green and red with some purple. I happened to be videoing and captured Ronn yelling in excitement and Marketa yelling out where the display was most vibrant. These guys(owners) get just as excited as the guests seeing them for their first time. To have this much love for their job shows that they are there to provide you with the very best adventure you could ask for.

If you want to see aurora lights full of adventure look no further! We had such an exciting time driving out to see the aurora lights learning about how best to shoot them and also just all about the aurora lights.
Ron and murrieta were amazing
For the coffee they had Kaladi from anchorage, which was a very nice extra touch.
I learned so much about my own equipment and my phone. My hesitation with booking the tour was that my mom wasn’t interested in the photography workshop and it is on the pricey end. However, Ron and Murrieta got my mom interested in learning about her phone photography she was so happy and excited and very practically jumping with joy- that was priceless.
Absolutely worth it, no regrets and I would book them again if I came in the winter.
And yes we saw the lights and were able to take the most impressive photos.

I am thinking of doing this for my husband for his birthday / Christmas. When do you recommend the best time possible for good chances. Is there a time forecasted to be great next year? Should we plan on coming during a new moon? Any other advice with choosing a time?
